Tried Black Again

I just tried Forever Black, which I purchased from CMA. The pupose of the product is to restore that black look on weathered black trim, it claims to dye the trim. Forever Black comes in a bottle with a built in applicator, like the applicator on liquid shoe polish from the store.

I applied Forever Black on trim that is in good condition, except the grey, weathered color. I cleaned the trim with bug and tar remover. Then "painted" on a coat of Forever Black.

The results are dissapointing. The trim looks like I applied black shoe polish. Biggest issue is that I could not make the surface look even. It had streaks. I tried multiple coats.

I carefully worked the applicator, but could never obtain an even surface. I then used a home depot foam brush, 1" wide. Same results.

I will report back if the color levels out, or if washing changes the apperance. But for now, this product goes on the shelf with the other things that do not work well.

If anyone has suggestions on renewing black trim, please let me know.

Thanks, Lou

I have used forever black and I am happy with the results. I did get some streaking on my first coat, but I added another and it turned out fine. I do notice tho that even though it has been 3 days since I did it, if i wipe it with a MF black will come off.

Yes, I meant Forever Black (post is corrected) ! Sorry for the confusion.

I have a new bottle of Black Again, and will report how well it works. I also have an old bottle of Black Again that is 5 years old. I will apply both and let the forum know what I find.

Based on past experience, I agree, Black Again is a GREAT product!

I used Forever Black which I used on my door handles. My first attempts were pretty bad and I have drip spots that won't go away, no matter how many coats I apply? Anyway to make them go away and try it again? It took my a while to figure out the dumb applicator!

Black again is one fine product. I have been using it for years. They did sell out about two years ago and it was impossible to find. Readillyavailable now I highly recomend it. It is especially good for the back of the mirrors on a SUV.

The first time I used Forever Black I also got splotchy results. Then somebody told me that happens when there is wax, oil, silicone, etc. on the trim. A good scrubbing with Dawn and a wipe-down with rubbing alcohol and I got spectacular results from Forever Black. IMO it’s a great product!
