Trashed exhaust tips = no problem for OPC and daytona speed brush!

Nice narrative on the process of cleaning the tips. For those weekend detailers this should be very helpful.

I have to say the tips on your car are dirty but no where near some that I have turned over on the Harley's I've worked on. The only thing that I have found to work effectively is Stoners Tarmanator with 000 steel wool, then I polish them to lift it back to what looks new again or as close as it can get.

Two examples of the bikes I've worked on

Wow, those look great! Do you have any before after shots? I'm always open to new ways of doing things :)

I don't and always plan to take some, but once I get to the shop I go into detail mode.

That said with exhaust tips I find that 000 and 0000 steel wool will take 90 plus % of anything that is on there with some help of a clearer like an APC or in the case of the Harleys that a lot do not have heavy mufflers can get thick and WAY caked on black. The Stoners and SW was really the trick for me after many other things I tried.

You could probably save your arms with that steel wool if you hit it first with stoners and the daytona speed master and then follow up with the steel wool for any trouble spots. It literally takes less than five minutes and you might end up saving time and a workout! I'm curious to hear your results if you do ever try :bigups

I have two DB's small and large, and where I find that it works well on the tips you showed in you're video, on the motorcycle ones not so much. But for the average car that doesn't have the emissions of a bike it's a good quick clean.

Haven't actually ever worked on motorcycles. So with motorcycles, the exhaust will bake the grime on even worse than with a normal car? Sounds like no fun lol, I'll leave those to you :D

Nice video! I didn't realize people actually detailed the inside of the exhaust. I myself use one of my cheap MF towels and buff the outside like you see people buffing shoes to get them clean and shiny but have never bothered with the inside.

BTW, not sure if you seen my reply in the UPGP thread I started when you asked about my Injen CAI. I had asked if you had done any other mods to your car besides the CAI and the decals. I am gathering by the looks of it those are still the stock suitcase mufflers on your car. I don't see the vent slot in the nose of the hood so I gather you have the V6. If you have the V6 and those are the stock mufflers you should check out some aftermarkets. I love my MRT exhaust and the sound I think is awesome.

Sorry I must of missed the reply and I do have a V6

Actually, I have done a few modifications and I would love to have the MRT 2.0 someday.

But, the exhaust isn't stock... it's actually the SS exhaust

My mods include (off the top of my head):

Lambo Doors
Hex Vents Painted White
GM High Wing Spoiler Painted Summit White
Custom White NS-1 Stripes
SS Exhaust
Injen Intake
Amber (Orange) Headlight And Fog Halos Installed As DRLs (Daytime Running Lights)
ABL (ambient lighting... teal color) Footwells x 4, ABL Dome And Trunk Light
Afterburners (from the concept camaro)
Reverse LEDs (in bright white instead of those ugly yellow halogens)
Illuminated Rear Bowtie (Lights up Amber/Orange)
License Plate LEDs (bright white as well)
White RS Wheels
White Trunk Bezels
ABM (Aqua Blue Metallic) Painted Brake Calipers
ABM/White Painted Engine Cover
Dash Ambient Lighting Extension
Rear-View Camera (2010s didn't come with them)
RX Catch Can
Chevy Emblem Vinyl Overlays
Dye Stitching (to match the ambient lighting the 2LT or 2SS come with)
Painted interior kick panels and the gauge cluster surrounding plastic white

and some others I'm sure I'm forgetting :D

Still sounds pretty close to the stock V6 exhaust though. But then again in person they sound so much different. Even the V2.0 has a little deeper sound then the video.

Wow, that is quite the list of stuff. I had received an email from Camaro5 racing that they now had Lambo doors I just can't see spending that kind of money on them. They do look cool but don't think I could open them in my garage. I myself didn't want to spend too much in add-ons otherwise then I could have just spent the money on the SS. I had thought about the halo's for the lights and of course decided not to. The only thing now I am thinking about is the headers and if they would really improve anything or just a waste of money.

Aren't the headers integrated into the LFX engine? Thought 2012s and up couldn't swap it out for that reason...

Yeah I got an AMAZING deal for the doors (only way I could afford them). VDI (vertical doors inc) makes the best kits and normally the kits themselves cost 1200 up. I paid for mine and got them installed for 1200 total :) Everything else, I actually installed on my own to save money :rofl

The manifolds or GM type of header if you can call them that can be replaced. JBA makes a shorty header for the V6. I think you need to have a muffler shop do it though because you have to cut and weld the headers in. The integration you might be thinking of is GM welded everything in. I guess I haven't looked to see how it is connected from the manifold to the pipe but thought I read it needed to be cut and the headers needed to be welded back in. I know I could not see any flanged joints in the system on my 2012 when I was underneath it hack sawing those huge mufflers off. It was worth it. I also do my own work when I can. Replacing the mufflers was not fun but then I did it with a hack saw, I didn't have a saws-all and wished I did. I arms hurt the whole weekend after I installed them both but it was worth it.

Well if you cut everything and weld it back together, yeah I think it's possible, but man that's a lot of work!

Integrated exhaust manifold = lots of work for aftermarket headers.

Found instructions last night for the JBA headers. I would still need a muffler shop. Manifold unbolts from cats and unbolts from heads. Cats need to be shortened and rewelded. The JBA headers are the cheaper route at just over $400. They do sell full header systems that start at $1200 and go up from there which is out of my budget. I am still looking into the headers though, supposed to add more HP. :rockon

Why would GM do that. cats go out and need to be replaced. I had to have one of mine replaced when the car was a year old. Seems like it would me more expensive they way they welded everything together. The cats on my car unbolted at the manifold and y pipe. Easy swap with another original cat if needed.

Not a single part of my exhaust is factory now. I have headers and a custom y pipe and a B&B catback and a custom cutout.

are you going to get a tune? trifecta?

In an earlier post I was wrong. It looks as though the cats are bolted on. But with the JBA shorty headers the cats need to be cut and apparently shortened for the headers to fit, they do unbolt. The rest of the system on my Camaro is welded as far as I could see from laying under the back of the car when I was cutting the stock mufflers off. It sucked that they were not a bolt on unit. They had to be cut off but the MRT mufflers slide over the exhaust pipe and are clamped on.
