Trashed Black Paint vs Z-PC

Buick CTX Clean Up:

This car went in for minor body work last October. The shop absolutely hammered it with a rotary. It sits outside 24 x 7, and the glaze the shop used wore off quick and left one of the worse looking hack jobs that I've ever seen.

Process Used:

Dawn Wash

A2Z on the wheels, wells & tires x 2

I used 2 full clay bars on this bad boy. The paint was filled with overspray, tar, and contaminant build up –absolutely nasty!

Here are a few before shots after the wash & clay (I didn’t dry the car -why bother)

Polish:

Zaino Z-PC via Metabo:

@ 1800 via LC synthetic wool

@ 1500 via CCS green pad

@ 1200 via finishing pad

I was left with a very nice looking finish.

I’m pretty impressed that Z-PC was able to tackle black paint in such poor condition.

Protection:

Z6 wipe down, Z5Pro & Clear Seal on the paint, glass, trim, wheels and lighting

Z16 x 2 on the tires.

Here are a few after shots:

Excellent job John. Funny you used zpc on a synthetic wool. A couple days ago I ordered a bunch of different pads from LC including synthetic wool and foamed wool just so I could experiment with zpc. I hope they get here soon.

Now that you used it on the synthetic wool and beat me to it:laugh: , how did it work?

Thanks

Ryan

Damn John!!! When I first saw the before pics, I wouldn't have guessed ZPC would have killed the swirls. I will definitely have to give this a shot in the future. I am sure the owner was floored.

Thanks guys! I appreciate the comments.

The owner is a close friend, and was very happy with the results.

Rydawg: The synthetic wool & ZPC cut up the paint nice and didn't leave much marring for clean up at all. It also runs much smoother on the rotary vs. OP/HTEC (which is what I have been using).

Here are a few afters on the passenger side & one of the hood :)

Holy crap John! If I did not see it here I would not believe either that ZPC/wool could cut a mess like that.

How would you rate the clear hardness on that Buick? About the same as most PITA GM clear?

How are you liking the Metabo? Is it really as smooth as they say?

I too want to sign up, when do the classes start? :bow

BAM!

That first sun shot says it all. No matter what, I know you did not get paid enough for this car.

I need to brush up my rotary skills. Finishing clean with ZPC on the rotary is not as easy at PO85RD, but when it does finish, my oh my...Well, the results show above...what a mirror!

Thank you for the compliments. It really means a lot -especially on this one.

This detail was done free of charge for a close friend of the family who is taking over the car after the passing of her mother.

gmblack3a: The paint was typical GM black, which I'm used to. I have a Dewalk rotary, and the Metabo is night-and-day different. There are times where you have to take another pass with the Metabo because it doesn't weigh as much and have as much bite, but I'd rather be safe than sorry. I have as much confidence using the Metabo as I do a PC these days. It's a very safe, easy to use tool -and quite effective.

Thanks again for the great comments.:thx

wow thats nice, I didnt know he was using metabo rotary.

I wonder if my makita would do the same.

Another amazing job that shows me how much I have to learn. The first picture made me wonder if this one could be saved......outstanding. That was a nice thing to do for your friend too, I'm sure she appreciates it very much.

Yep, that's Spam Mr. Busch.

You're a MASTER of the rotary -hands down, and have taught me more about it that you'll ever know. :bow

Sean...A rotory is like riding a bike! Once you master it...you will never forget it.

LOL. You're pretty good on the wheel too my friend :)

When you get your wool pads in, let me know how they work (and the make), and you're results.

I don't have any heavy cut yellow CCS pads, but I'm going to pick up a few because I'm very impressed with the rest of the CCS pad line up via the rotary.
