Lochte apologizes about his claims about being robbed without admitting he lied. Too bad.

Very good example of the culture we`ve bred - grown man acts like a child, lies about it, owns up and "apologizes" only after caught in his web of lies, still takes no responsibility. And to top it all off, our society-at-large will give him a pass because he can swim fast (or throw a ball, or run fast, or jump high, etc). America!

Hey I`ll take any news that`s Not politics.

What a jack a though, all of them.

JBM- I`d say it`s more a case of there not being a bullet to dodge in the first place. Though I do think it`s pure luck that none of Rio`s usual violence has been a serious issue. Nice that it`s turning out that way though.

TriopicStevce & JaredPointer & 512Detail- Yep, what you guys said. [Freakin`] pathetic. Though I`ll be a bit surprised (and quite disappointed) if Society really does give him (Lochte) a pass. The others...eh, so far I get the feeling they just played the Stupid Game and won the inevitable Stupid Prize.

4 swimmers go into a gas station bathroom and do damage that results in a gun being pulled to make them pay for the damage. WTF were they doing in there? I`m sure they will get a slap on the wrist at worst due to their swimming prowess; it`s not like they raped a woman.

I was mostly jesting, there has been multiple reports of the athletes being robbed, hotels being broken into ect. Some stay on a cruise ship to avoid the problems.

I have a friend in Brazil and it has been common there for a while to have armed gunmen seal off a tunnel and rob everyone in it. The place is like no other. He told me of when he went into a certain section of saol palo that the interior lights needed to be on and there were people stationed with rifles.

That is socialism, that is what happens when there is no middle class. Hilary 2016....

RIO in my opinion is a DUMP. I went there in 1994 while taking a Military "cruise" around South America and stopping in every country on the ocean. Rio De janerio was by FAR the worst place we went and UNFORTUNATELY we spent the most time there. Sure the beaches are nice but go to the other side of the road and past the hotels it is a big dump. Would NEVER go back there in my life.

Peru on the other hand, if I felt like leaving the good ole USA I would go to again.

And I dont even want to get started on how "we" treat "celebrities" in this country! UGH.

JBM- Copy that, I wasn`t being critical of your post, just..eh, wasting bandwidth by being a pedantic [jerk] I guess. I just figured (as you well know) that getting through the Games, let alone after some bad behavior by clueless guys, without significant violence is really something notable given that environment. Americans often fail to take life as seriously as they should in unfamiliar environments.

dcjredline- They did a, uhm....effective job of concealing a lot of stuff and making Rio look all travel-brochure, huh?

Bunky- IMO it wouldn`t have served any productive purpose. The Truth about Rio is/was there for anybody to be aware of anyhow. A Societal Exposé would`ve only done harm to the Games. Actually, I give Brazil a lot of credit for how well it went, hickups and all.

Saw a clip of an interview he did with Matt Lauer this morning. He ditched the bleached hair look at me style for something a little more wall flowerish.

Nutbread- How did he come across on Lauer? The interview they showed the other night was almost painful to watch even though I`m not sympathetic towards the guy.

He needed a handler, too bad nobody reigned him in as Personal Responsibility obviously isn`t in his toolbox. Sigh...just not a fully-functioning adult.

What I saw was on Good Morning America and it was only a small clip. I`m not sure when the interview was given. He seemed remorseful and at times at a loss for words, but he also seemed not completely sincere. I really can`t say why, maybe just my own skepticism.

Nutbread- OK...IMO his remorse (which probably oughta be in scare-quotes) was, uhm...misdirected. The whole thing is just sad to me, I really wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt.

He is supposed to be - what - 30 years old ???
How old do you have to be to function as a real adult ??
Perhaps his inspiration is Michael Phelps - another idiot until he finally wised up..
