Trading trucks...

JaredPointer

COME AT ME BRO
Well, I think I have a case of the wants... I found a Tundra CrewMax Limited 4WD that I think I might trade the Tacoma for. How silly of me is it to get rid of a brand new vehicle?!?!? :wall I sort of regret giving up on shopping back when I was having to look, but I got so tired of the back-and-forth. I also keep telling myself I want the bigger truck - and this one is pretty massive (at least compared to my standards).

Just a little rant and ramble to start the morning off right....

Color me s-h-o-c-k-e-d! I figured you were a Tacoma man/fan through and through.

I'm sure you'll love some aspects of the full-size truck, but I'll tell you I'm still getting used to finding an ample sized parking space for the F-150. And 14/15 will be a little painful when gas goes back up (and it is starting that way down here). Yet all in all, I love my truck!

I'm scared to ask what kind of hit they want on the depreciation side of yours. But, I'm assuming you are dealing with the same dealership.

No, they offered a buy-back based on their cost of selling the truck to me - NOT what the truck is valued at per KBB or the black book. Their offer wasn't even close to trade-in value... I'm sort of shocked, but then again I'm really not. You might could pull that on someone who doesn't know anything about economics/finance, but I have a couple of degrees in that area. As much business as I have sent that way, I figured at least they'd try and work with me a little on that... Disappointed on that front.

In any case, I have a couple of leads on sales to individuals, and one dealership has offered a one-way trade/purchase that I'm actually pretty pleased with. They said they'd offer a little more if I would get a truck from them, or at least knock it off the price of something of thiers just to get my business. Just not sure I want anything they have.

Of course, I do expect to lose a little equity trading/selling a one year old model vehicle. Bad planning on my part I guess. I could still wind up keeping what I've got too, so who knows. Now, the place with the Tundra seems to be dragging their feet on getting back with me, so who knows.... All I can think is here I go again. :wall

You only go this way one time, if you can afford it why not. :bigups

" did you ever see a brinks truck following a funeral coach? ya cant take it with ya" :wow::notme::passout:

I am sure they "dealer" will make some money, but you will still be OK if you keep the thing a while. That new vehicle stuff does get in your blood for sure.

Good luck... :howdy

I have to ask...

Why the bigger truck?

More power, more room...

Have you considered a diesel (IF your going to be towing)

I know Toyota doesn't have a diesel in their truck... YET! But I think there is a rumour somewhere on the net about a diesel for the Tundra's in the near future???

I loved everything about the new Tundra expect for the price, needless to say I got myself an 07 2500 HD Silverado crew with the diesel...

This truck gets better mileage than my 2001 Jimmy with a V6!

Keep it short since I am on the iPhone:

I just want the bigger room and the 381 hp motor. :)

a little more luxurious.

It seems I can't work with domestic dealers. They all appear to be very uninterested in selling me a vehicle - no calls or outlandish offers. Very unwilling to work on a true selling price versus the msrp.

In all honesty I think you have a screw loose............why didn't you get the truck you wanted in the first place? As far as making any sense this one is out the window but get the one you want if you can swing it........and afford to drive it. It will tow the boat as if nothing is there.

Wait a few weeks, if you want a domestic. Dealers are probably feeling fat right now.

Haha - thanks. I did look for a truck meeting the specs of the one I recently found. Really, I just got disgusted with shopping and looking. I may very well just keep what I have - it will tow everything I will ever need to tow.

Not really. ;)

Must be a local thing about dealers.

I feel your desire to have something different, Jared. I almost have become obcessed with finding that elusive perfect truck. Either it is to new, to old, to hi, to lo, wrong color, no leather, chromed engine...then no a/c. It is always something. That ...and do I really want to spend the money?:notme::yikes::dnaughty:cheers::howdy

Well, it appears I'll be keeping the Tacoma. I couldn't work it out with the folks who had the Tundra. I still have one person wanting to look at the Taco for possible purchase, but I'm not expecting anything. Can't complain about that. :)

Yep buy what you want or you'll never keep it! I learned my lesson the hard way as well. Trading is bad news but if you have the itch you'll more than likely scratch it - just get something your going to keep for 5 or 6 years this time.

I'm just guessing with the number of vehicles that evidently were moved via the Cash For Clunkers program that some of the dealers/manufacturers hunger has be at least mildly sated.

And according to a local news report there a number of buyers whose appetites for a new vehicle are now whetted. There may even be a new program at the state level, though with different criteria and a bit lower rebate (but still @ $3k).

Still you never know what might be around the corner. After not hearing back, the dealer might just decide he would like to move that unit sooner than later. Hopefully it all works out in a good way for you. :bigups

Sorry to hear your Tundra deal fell through. Nice trucks. I am a Taco man myself. I have had 5. 3 before they were called Tacoma's. Hard to beat them
on reliability. I have a friend who has the 380 horse Tundra. Runs like the dickens. He put headers and a aftermarket Chip in it and a throttle body extension on it. Stock Mustang GT's can't hang with him. Lot of gas though.

Yea he has a gas hog.

With Obama's cap and trade gas will rise 60 cents per gallon add to that the printing money and spending will bring inflation making the dollar worth far less so it will take many more dollars to buy a barrel of oil.

$5.00 per gallon gas is in your near future I don't know why any one would want to buy a gas hog other than they just aren't looking to the future and what the current policy is going to do to our economy.
