Toronto Weekend Detail - Acrylic Jett's off my list

I began the afternoon with Acryllic Prime which was great. Nice deep , and wetter than AIO. After 30mins drying time. It was easy to remove.

I then went for the Acryllic Jett, and put this much on as seen below , and preserved no more of this amount on my black pad throughout the entire truck. This amount barely sees it noticeable on the panels.

But after 30mins, Acryllic Jett stuck to the paint like glue. To my demise, and disappointment, just like klasse SG, this stuff brought back those awful memories of struggling to remove such thin layers of this stuff. Again, way too much elbow grease to remove. I did not want waste anymore time, struggling to remove it, so I pulled out my rotary and Optimum Polished the entire truck to remove the Acryllic Jett.

I then went for my Meg's #21. I applied Meg's #21 x 2 and am much happier as there is much less "elbow grease" involved.

So the afters are Optimum Polish to Meg's #21 x 2

(sorry for the dark photos)

Overall, some good came out of this..

I have officially removed Acryllic Jett off my list of LSP's, but will use the Acryllic Prime.

I have finally shortened my list of LSP's to

Meg's #21

Zaino

EX-P

as Jett and Klasse SG are destined for a permanent shelf life.

What do you mean that after 30 minutes? Did you let AJ dry for 30 minutes before trying to remove? If so, I'm not auprised you had problems. Wipe on, lightly work in, wipe off, a panel at a time is the way to use it. Try using it that way and I think you will be a lol happier.

Whoa! Did you really have to bust out the rotary and level paint again with Optimum Polish? I would've thought a helping of AP will remove the AJ.

Scott - it was more like 20mins of leaving it on. But i'll give it another go in the summer.

merci - i first tried to remove with Prime, but had employ a "scrubbing" action as well that's why I just cracked out the rotary.

Less than a minute is much better. If you put it on too thick and it leaves what looks almost like scratches behind, just appy a drop of AJ to the applicator, wipe over that area than immediately wipe with an MF towel. Works every time.

I would just apply with either a foam pad or a microfiber pad by hand. I have found that using a pc to apply an lsp is no help at all with most. Anyway give it another shot in the spring and use as mentioned more a wipe on wipe off method. Good Luck

Scottwax, he used just 4 drops (they look like drops) on a 6.5" finishing pad and used that on the entire truck. I'd have thought that was very, very thin and shouldn't be a bear to remove at all.

You're suggesting that he use a drop per panel via a somewhat modified WOWO method.

So the moral of the story here is that no matter how thin you apply AJ, don't let it set for more than a minute??

wow...i let mine dry...sometimes even overnight (dont ask) and have never had a single problem with it...that is REALLY odd...I hope you figure whats up!

My experience has been that AJ is a piece of cake to use if you wipe on, wipe off within a minute. This is also the first I have heard of anyone applying it via PC.

What I am suggesting is if there are any streaks, just a very light reapplication will remove the streaks.

There is a 6 page thread about AJ with a lot of good application tips in it.

^ i tried to be the first to apply with pc :D

I simply prefer to apply LSP's by machine. I no longer apply any LSP's by hand.

So i'll try on my pc maybe in a few more weeks with the wowo method and report back or maybe after xmas.

Justin - didn't freeze as my garage is about 75 to 80 F , the metal is warm.

I have used it by pc before w/ no problems...i was talking about in shipping maybe it froze...did you get it recently?

When I first applied the AJ I just recently purchased, I did a spray WOWO without any problems.

My guess is that a 20 min. dry time was too short. You would probably get better results doing either a modified spray WOWO like stated on the AJ package or let it dry for a longer time. Since AJ is supposed to be similar to SG, I bet if you let it dry longer it would be easier to remove.

I have been experimenting with AJ/Cyclo. Blue pad on one head and bonnet on other.

Works great. Will take some work to get a good technique on vertical sufaces.

I don't find any difference in cutting between Optimum Compound and Polish with rotary. Both are useless imho

So I guess the Optimum Polish is not useless after all.

I find the AJ difficult to remove. I apply it a panel at a time. This solved the problem for me.

maybe the heat from the pad accelerated the drying time and the carriers flashed to quick causing it to setup very hard...I believe some LSP's are not meant to used with a PC and just hand applied...using a PC is no different then doing in full sun sometimes...with some products that are not sun friendly...

AL-53- very good point. I'm gonna try both next time, by hand then by pc.

Dents and Details - I only used it cuz I can't stand to have these full bottles just sitting there. I pay almost double of you pay cuz of duty and cross border taxes.
