topping klasse with autoglym HD wax

Hey guys

Back in the game and just finished topping my new tuxado black f150 with four coats of klasse SG. Truck was foamed washed clayed washed klasse aio and then four coats of SG looks great but thinking of topping with something. I do have a jar of HD wax that I use on my other car.

Any issues with topping and maintaing with HD wax? From what I've read I'd I do this I can't add anymore SG.

Thanks

How old is your jar of Autoglym HD? Unless it's been stored properly (IE, indoors and not on a shelf in an unheated garage), you may find it a bit grainy and it will have shrunk from  the sides of the container. Also, if you do decide to use the very closed-cell red sponge applicator that came with wax, be sure to wet it enough to get it back to its soft state. Usually it's as hard as a rock. Some may think that the sponge is gone and throw it away in this state. It's not; it just needs some water to "restore" it, provided its been properly cleaned before storing it.

You are correct in assuming that once you add a carnauba-based wax over a sealant, you should not add a sealant over the wax. Some sealant-wax combinations do not mix with each other, but unfortunately, I cannot tell you if HD will "play well" with SG.

Like all good carnauba-based waxes, the "trick" is to spread it on thin. I also use the wax-on-wax-off (WOWO) approach, but that's up to you and your experience with carnauba wax. Some leave it haze over (about 5-10 minutes, depending on the temperature and humidity levels), then wipe it off.

HD wax is a great wax and I assume, like most Autopians, you got yours at Wal-Mart when they carried it. I purchased mine when it was on clearance for about $20, but that's got to be about four (4) years ago by now. The red microfiber cloth that came with the wax in the box is excellent for removing any wax or sealant and worth the purchase price alone.

Bass- If I were you I'd do at least two more coats of the KSG and then try to talk myself out of topping it ;)  NO WAY would I mess with the ability to add more KSG as it's needed; IMO keeping a good thick layer of that stuff on there is the best way to take advantage of what it brings to the table.  For quickie spruce-ups I'd use Sonus' Acrylic Glanz spray.

BINGO!

I applied 6 layers of KSG to my truck and it is Fantastic!  You could also make your own booster using Klaase SG, rinseless wash, and water.  Nothing wrong with Sonus's AGS either.  The Sonus is probably easier.

Yep, SIX seems to be the magic number with KSG.  And yeah, I use the Sonus simply out of convenience.  Shake/apply/buff...done in no time.  I dunno how much acrylic-stuff it really leaves behind, but at least I get the feeling I've accomplished a little something and it does seem to impart a bit more effect than my QDs/rinseless washes do.

Thanks again still plan to add two more coats but last night at dusk the klasse looked amazing. Just like as others said candy apple look and I did make a booster with one part SG to three parts distilled water.

Bass- Ah, sounds like you hit that "KSG layering pinnacle" where it somewhat abruptly looks different/better!  Once you get to that point it's just a question of whether you actually like that "KSG signature look" enough that you can resist topping it.  You can guess which side of that fence I'm always on ;)
