Too much product?

When using PB's SSR 2.5 and 1 today on the PC, and I always feel as though i am using much too much product. Should the polish have an opaque film over the paint while polishing? Transparent? Thin as possible? Thick as possible?

I have been shooing for just enough polish so that you can see a layer of it on the paint, but not enough to look invisible. I seem to be using a LOT of product this way. (About 1/4th of a bottle for one coupe.)

Suggestions?

I Dont use poorboys, but 1/4 of a bottle is too much. You only need enough to lubricate the pad. With my Clyclo, a very small dab on each four inch pad is all I use for each panel.

That is what i am thinking. I guess I am overly worried about drying out the surface. For some reason I have it in my head that it is like claying where the surface must be lubed at all times.

What about once the pad is saturdated with polish? Do I stop adding new beads and continue polishing untill it dries again?

(Thanks Brad)

I know alot of people use their PC on 6, but i have never had good results with it. It makes me use to much product, or dries out and dusts, makes it gum up.

The best speed i have found is 4.5 for a little while, then crank it up when it starts to go clear.

If you are using the correct amount of product, which should not be that much, pad saturation should not be a problem. I usually change pads when they get saturated with dead paint and oxidation. I guess it all depends on the condition of the paint and what step you are doing; compounding vs. finishing etc.
