Today’s detail was an exterior only on a 2003 Audi A6 4.2 Quattro in Dark Blue. The owner bought the car not too long ago and wanted the paint brought back to its best potential condition. I started the detail around 10am and finished around 4:30ish.

Process:

Wheels – Meg’s Wheel Brightener cut 2:1 with assorted brushes. Meg’s Gold Class to neutralize. Same with tires and wheel wells.

Tires dressed with Mothers FX Tire shine with tire applicator

Paint –

Wash with Meg’s Gold Class

Clayed with Zaino Clay

Hi-Temp Extreme Cut with Yellow cut LC pad via Rotary @ 1700-2000rpms

(Surprisingly this step left little micro marring and holos on this finish)

Menzerna FPII with White Polish LC pad via Rotary @1200-1500rpms

FK425 wipe down for the dusting.

Applied Collinite IW845 by hand

Exterior windows cleaned with Stoners IG

Process took about 6 hours.

I will let the pics do the rest of the story/talking!

You "laid the smack down" on that hard Audi clear. :waxing:

Surfer - I was going to use Zaino but the temps and humidity would not be too friendly for the curing process. IW845 has the best durability other than Zaino I have found and lloks great to boot. Its has a clear wet look to allow the metallic to truely shine through.

gmblack3a - I had to make two passes on most panels to remove most of the swirls.

Everyone Else - Thank you for the comments!!! :thx The owner just picked it up about 20 minutes ago. Hopefully he will be happy with the results when he see it under light and the sun since its completely dark right now!

I forgot to mention I took readings of the paint with the paint gauge and some areas were in the low 120's-110's so i knew I had to be careful not to try and remove too much clear. The roof was reading low as 85 - 100 microns in most area. I did a very light and quick pass of only FPII on the roof, most of the swirls on the roof remain but I did not want to take any clear of that.

01bluecls- Good move, measuring the paint and being gentle on the roof. Sure turned out nice, especially for only using two polishing steps, you obviously have great rotary skills :xyxthumbs

Usually most cars I have worked on I would follow up EC with IP on a polishing pad but for some reason on this car EC (not even with OP) left VERY LITTLE hazing or micomarring with just a few holograms that FPII on a polishing pad could knock out.

You did an amazing job. My personal car is an Audi A6 2.7T, same exact color. And let me tell everyone: That is one tough paint to get right, and from these pictures, it looks VERY well done. Good job.
