Tire Shine question

Hi, I'm new here but I came over from www.my.is to ask a question about some tire shine I purchased at the Chicago auto show earlier this year.



I bought this stuff (can't remember the name and the can isn't nearby)



I used it on my tires and it turned them brown (even though they say it doesn't.)



Here is the stuff, anyone know about it, or how to correct browning tires?

Ohhh...car show stuff...that stuff always....SUCKS. Best bet is to not use a dressing with petroleum solvents (which can accelerate the natural browning of the tire by leaching out the protective waxes). You need to clean the tire thoroughly, with something like Eagle One All Wheel and Tire Cleaner, then use a water-based dressing (one of the white ones).
 
Ugh...I cringed just looking at that picture. :)



Great advice above. I usually hit the tires with a full-strength all purpose cleaner or degreaser...let it soak in for a minute or so, then apply more and agitate with a stiff brush (be careful of the wheels).



Lots of great water-based dressings out there. Others may have a recommendation, but I have yet to be satisfied with any spray-on dressing. Good luck!

Did the tires turn brown after applying the dressing or after a drive? What did you use to clean the tires? It is typically the use of harsh chemicals used to clean the tires that cause the browning. The term for it is "blooming" and the tires are designed to do that, some more than others. It will generally show up the first time you drive the car after cleaning and dressing the tires. Do a search on the term "blooming" as it relates to tires.
 
I won't be using it anymore, thought it sounded a bit funky at the show..but it happened after I drove the car.



I let it sit for awhile before driving to allow to drive even though they said its no sling tire shine.



I'm looking for a good black matte finish, not a shine.



Any good recommendations for a water based tire matte finish?

Thanks guys, I have almost everything else for cleaning my car but the tire shine that I thought was good turned on me, heh

If you can get it.. CarBrite Vibrant. That's what we use at work cause it's bodyshop safe (cleaning bay is next to the bodyshop.. can't have any silicone products). It's not extremely shiney, it looks nice though. On certain tires it doesn't seem to last very long... usually 1 or 2 washes and it's gone. I dunno if that is the case with all water-based dressings ??

Uh oh...did I mix up my story? I hate when that happens...I hate getting old :o
 
I'll second the vote for Poorboys BnB. I've rarely used anything else since being turned on to this product. One light coat = nice matte finish w/ no sling. Good luck!
