Thoughts at the 1/2 way point about 4star UPC, new Sonus pads, Meg's mf towels, etc

I'm trying some new (to me) stuff today, and I like all of it.

Started with Robert Earl Keen's A Bigger Piece of Sky. Now we're at Elvis Costello & the Attractions Live at the El Mocambo. Man, this is fun. Those aren't new, though.

1) Ultra Car Care Products Body Wash (with "glaze clean"...? whatever) Nice stuff, as good as any car wash concentrate I've ever used. EXTREME lubricity, like using QEW. Rinses quickly, and sheets rather than beads.

2) I like the 4Star Ultimate Paint Cleaner; it's like MPPC lite, for when you need a cleaner rather than a stripper. The paint is left smooth, but not "squeaky", and it's easy to remove.

3) The Sonus Blue pads are GREAT. I've always wanted something softer than a polishing pad but firmer than a finishing pad, to use with cleaners. This fits the bill perfectly, and the smaller Sonus backing plate & wrap-around edges of the pad give a nice feeling of safety in corners.

4) Meg's edgeless mf towels are just. so. cool. I've noticed two types of excellent towels. One type, the Autofiber/Excel Detail type, is characterized by a large nap and excellent clinginess. The other, the Meguiar's/Stoner's type, is characterized by a very tight nap and extreme softness. BOTH types of towels are absolutely fantastic. I'm using the Meguiar's Ultimate towels today, and I'm really happy with the way the work is going.

Lunch is almost over, and it's time to pick some new music. I think I'll go with The Blasters' Live album.

And, to those who notice something; I did it not out of pique, but to demonstrate how an unempowered user can "work around" the system to manipulate the record.

The loophole should be closed. beanbag, feel free to post your original reply.

Tom

No, it's not that; I was thinking about a different thread, and I got to wondering how a regular member could delete another member's post without permission, and that became more interesting than another "what I did today" thread. So I decided to show how the loophole could be exploited.

For those who missed the couple posts that were lost, beanbag stated that QEW has no lubricity above that of water, and that UPC's only value is as a prep for UPP. I responded with something sarcastic, but beanbag probably didn't see my poll asking forum members to pick a product for me to try, and that the winner was the UPC/UPP combo (which was why I tried it). But I still say that the overriding characteristic of QEW is its extreme lubricity, without suds.

Tom

I missed the whole exchange, but I do think QEW offers lubricity above that of water, IMO anyway.

I am a big fan of UPC, I use it a lot with other products. I find that it is just as easy to use as AIO and provides comparable results. IMO it will deepen the paint a bit more than AIO. Having both products, if I had to do it all over, I would skip AIO and just buy the UPC. That is probably a sinful statement in our world, but it is the truth.

Mosca- I think that's the first time I've seen an Autopian reference to The Blasters' Live album (currently in the MPV's CD player) :xyxthumbs

You've piqued my interest in the blue pads...just what I need to be intrigued by, more PC pads :o Sure wish all these things were available for the Cyclo.

I saw The Blasters live, in the mid-80s, at the Electric Banana in Pittsburgh. They were absolutely killer, as much energy as I've ever seen in a show. Even more than The Ramones... well, maybe about the same.

The live album I'm referring to, btw, is Trouble Bound, not the new one, Going Home. I haven't heard Going Home yet. If you like The Blasters, try The Blazers.

The next pads I order will probably be the Sonus. They're a little bit smaller, and I like the control offered by that, along with the finer gradations.

Tom

Mosca- Thanks for the tip on The Blazers. Heh heh, yeah, the CD I'm listenening to *is* Trouble Bound :xyxthumbs I haven't heard the new one yet either.

I just did a second coat of UPP. One of the things I like best is how easy it is to use; wipe on, wipe off, no dust, no staining, no residue buildup. It's like Meg's #20 without the cleaners. I've always had a problem with the cleaners in #20 making my red hood look blotchy; the only way to avoid that was to apply and remove with the PC. UPP, having no cleaners, is a WOWO, PC or no PC. The appearance is a bit softer than #20, with more jetting and wetness. And a noteable quality is the slickness of the surface.

I could live with this. I'll never get to test the durability, but if it lasts, then that's even better. Nice stuff.

Now, the 4 Star Gloss Enhancing Spray... That's exactly the same as Sonacrylix.

Tom

I've always wanted to use the word homologato...

Although it may not apply to this thread, this chopped up thead seemed to be the best place...

Jim

Mosca- One of the things I really like about UPP is the slickness (especially if you refresh it as often as I expect you will). Stuff doesn't stick to it, so you can use extra-gentle wash techniques.
