"Those clubs"

Alright guys, here is the situation and the question. One of our regular client's good friend is a manager at a Gentlemen's club. We were informed late last night that he wants to meet with us to offer his clientel wash/detail services at his club. It sounds like a good way to build a customer base for us, in turn a "value add" at his club. Now the question is this, both our girlfriends (my partner's and mine) are having some difficulty accepting the location. Our outlook is that of our business and it is our primary focus. My business partner and I are both in our early 30's and have "been there, done that" in regards to those types of clubs. We were just curious if anyone has had/done business in this manner, and did it affect your personal life in anyway? Thoughts, suggestions? :nixweiss

Business is business. Do you need to go in the club besides the meeting? Probably not. Mainly you'll be outside working. It's not like you'll be there to socialize. As long as you're both professional, I don't see a problem. Maybe you can just stop in for lunch!

Personally, I wouldn't do it. But that is just me. I wouldn't want my name or any any vehicles with my name on it sitting in front of or in the lot of one of those places. Plus, think of the people you are going to be dealing with. Probably a lot of drunks and of course perverts. I wouldn't subject my business, myself, or my employees to that.

:doh never should have told the GF. oh well too late.

In order to respond to this I think you need to post some pics of the location and employees.....so we can see the cars of course....(no need to post anything on clientel)

Not really. I have several people and places I refuse to do business with because of hard times dealing with them in the past.

I was refering to the situation with the girfriends. If you work for Playboy or Hustler it doesn't mean you're the photographer or the fluffer.

I guess it just depends on your beliefs and such.

Personally, I don't care for going to strip clubs. I'd rather eat a nice dinner with the wife. I agree, I guess it depends on your beliefs as a person and a business owner. As a person, I don't care for strip clubs. As a business owner, as long as everyone is honest, I don't see a problem with it. However, it would also depend on the situation and the location of the club. If he's working in the back of the building out of site minding his own business, then I don't see a problem with it, personally. Also, there are a lot of businessmen who go to those clubs and a lot of other guys who aren't drunks but they are perverts.:chuckle:

Different strokes for different folks.

I'm with Bob, but that's just my moral preference. Also, if you respect your girlfriends' opinions, that should be part of the decision. But then you also have to think about your current clientele. Would it offend or put off any of them if they found out where you are doing business? It would be similar to a respected company deciding to advertise in Playboy. You just have to decide if it will be positive, or detrimental to the business besides possibly your personal lives. Even if I thought the situation was OK, if my wife didn't want me to do it, I wouldn't. It just says you have no respect for your girlfriend's opinions. But if you think it will really help your business that much, then sit down and talk about it with her.

Guys, we really appreciate the diverse responses. Looks as though I'll have to get more information on the location, and what the manager is expecting us to do. The least I can do is meet with him, maybe convince him that his auto needs a detail :buffing: . I'll keep you guys up on the events and what the final decision is. Once again, Thanks!

Moral issues aside. What's it going to do for the reputation of your business? I'm sure it will be advertising. Good or bad advertising depends on what type of business you want. If I had a priceless car I wanted taken care of would I use the same company who's truck I always see at the strip club? The type of clients that you do business for in the past will most likely be the type you will do work for in the future. Even more so if you main advertising is via word of mouth. I'm just trying to help in the thought process, not making judgments about anyone. Good luck with what ever you decide!

Those places are always full of car salesman - might not be a bad tie-in.

Perhaps there is a way to do it not on-site? Or, let them call it something else (Double D Detailing Services), but you do the work. That way your name isn't connected to it.

Those places are full of folks with pockets full of cash. Period.

If a guy frequents a Gentlemans's club, I personally find it hard to believe that he'd frown upon my company because we also have a business relationship with that same club. Just doesn't make sense. Besides, I hear they have the best break-rooms. :hifive:

I wouldn't worry about the guy who goes to the club - I'd worry about the bank president's wife whose car you do that found out you were associated with it. That's why I suggested operating under a different name there.

And just think-you'd probably get paid all in singles. :)

This might be a dumb question but when would you be detailing these cars? At night? haha Because I highly doubt a lot of people spend their lunch hour at the Strip Club and at night Im sure they wouldn't appreciate the halogens lighting up their car in a dark parking lot for everyone to see. I would steer away from it, there are plenty of other potential clients out there and too many people that will judge you.

I spoke briefly with the mutal contact. "Sounds" like a basic wash/vac service either in the evenings or weekends. Either way I was told I could charge pretty much what ever I wanted for this service depending on the size of the vehicle. A figure of "$50.00" per wash and vac for a standard size sedan was mentioned as was being paid up front before each vehicle is started. As stated before, we have to meet with the manager to find out exactly what he is looking for.

Are you kidding? I know a guy that used to work near a club and he would go there for lunch EVERY DAY and it was packed. Perhaps one of the reasons guys do that is that the question never comes from the wife "why are you late coming home?"

I used to work in an area with a lot of large companies with multiple buildings. No matter which company you were at their buildings always had alphanumeric designations. I was in “building N at my job, I had a buddy at another company in their “building B145 or whatever the heck it was. Sometimes two companies would lease space in the same building and it would be one company’s “building 37 but the other’s “building M12.

The local club became known as “G building.

It was common to hear:

Q- “Hey, where you guys going for lunch?

A- “G building.

Setec and PC thanks for the info! I don't live near a club so I guess I just figured wrong :) That's hilarious but sad at the same time...haha

I think that is the best idea I have ever heard for a car detailer.

I take clients to "those places" weekly. I usually have a driver because I work in NYC and have a few too many. 99% of the night is me acting like a big shot throwing money around.

Why shouldnt I be able to get my car, and my potential clients cars clened for $200 while I'm inside checking out the broads?

Plus, its a good way for the club to make customers stay longer, "sorry sir, your car isnt ready yet".
