Thinking of Buying PC 7424-- Questions

I am new to machine use.

I am wondering which backing pad to use, and which pads to use for waxing. My wife and I both have new vechicles so I only need to use a wax for the most part on our cars.

Also, do i need to get a old door or hood to practice on or is this something very easy and safe to do. I would hate to screw up one of our cars.

thanks for your help.

Hello, I just bought a PC 7424 from Autopia, it came as a kit with the pads, backing plate, MF pads, and Sonus Polish all for $199. It was the best move I ever made, my cars are also newer, however my neighbors have been having me do their cars so all the pads have come in handy. Also it's light and very easy to use. Goodluck on your choice!

Get a wide variety of pads.

It doesn't make sence to get a PC and scrimp on the pads, as you're limiting what the machine will be able to do.

Get something like the Sonus SFX polisher kit from Autopia ($199). That includes the three Sonus 6" pads. FWIW I'm also very pleased with the Sonus Paintwork Cleanser that comes with this pack.

Then add a 3.5" backing plate and get some 4" pads for spot repair.

I've only had my PC for one evening (it arrived yesterday) and I do not regret buying extra pads - believe me!

Hope this helps.

+1 for the extra pads comment.

It's so much quicker to slap on another clean pad instead of washing / rinsing /drying the same pad for almost every panel - especially when you've some bad swirls and a hard CC giving you a tough time.

This is a dumb question, I am thinking about going with the edge pads. It looks like i need the quick adapter, do i also need a backing plate with the edge 2000 pads and the adapter.

No, just the adapter. The system eliminate backing plates all together.
