thinking of adding onto my house

my 2 car garage just aint gettin it. so i almost have my wife talked into putting an addition onto the house since we have a zoning restriction and i cant build a garage in my backyard.



i think im going to go 14 feet out on the back of the house and the basement part will open into my finished rec room that i have now. im thinking of tiling it and having doors put in large enough for my grand national to fit thru and keep it inside the house basicly.



has anyone done anything like this? i will have a sliding door to seperate it from the rest of the house basicly so fumes dont come in. just curious if anyone else is nuts enough to move your car into the house like i want to.
 
LOL... Around here they add forward to their existing garage. So you can pull one behind anohter and get 4 in... Usually looks nice too...

yea, i cant do that here. and the wife shot me down on going wider on the one we have.
 
It will be like having a showroom in your house LOL! Sounds like a straightforward addition. I would suggest adding on in 4 foot incriments, less waste that way.
 
i had a customer that had a basement that went out on one side @ ground level and he put in a garage door. He put his Mustang in for the winter. Looked pretty cool too, you couldn't see the garage from the street as it was around the back corner.



Hows the GN? Drive it much? :xyxthumbs

i have drive it 2 times since i bought it. i hate to see the miles roll over on it. im happy just to walk out in the garage and look at it.



i love it! im gonna start detailing the undercarrage this weekend and get it ready for the gs nationals then gm carlisle after that.

I've just bought a new house due to getting a new job in a different area, and my situation is similar to yours.



Typically, what people do is "add to the front" to double their garage space, but the house I'm buying into has no room out front to add on to it, hence I too am considering adding "to the back".



I'll share my info (if I decide to do it), like how much it's going to cost, or if city codes & laws are a problem, ect, and maybe it'll help out others looking for info in the future.



Seems to me that a garage is never big enough. I'm going from a fair sized 3 car garage to a smaller one the way things stand right now... :(

you can never have too much garage! i want a steel building with an apartment over top of it next!
