'The Zaino Treatment' for a Black Mustang Convertible

G35stilez

Ari Gold
Good Evening,

This beautiful pony-car belongs to Nick (FocusedOnSound), a member on the boards. Nick keeps the car in great shape but expressed problems getting some deeper swirls out of his paint. An avid PC user, Nick didn't trust himself to jump on a black car for the first time with a rozilla (I don't blame him!).

Anyways, the paint was very very smooth, but did have a lack of depth in some areas (see B&A). The swirling throughout was light to moderate except on the fender (repaint) and trunk where it was pretty heavy. My finals were:

-Optimum Wash
-Zaino Z18 Clay
-Hi-Temp Extreme Cut / Optimum Car Polish (50/50) via rotary and LC Cutting Pad @ 1500 rpm
-Blackfire Ceramiclear Finishing Polish @ 1200 rpm via LC Finessing Pad (x2 on hood)
-Zaino Z6 Wipedown
-Zaino Z5 Pro (ZFX'd) by hand
-Zaino Z8 by hand
-Zaino Z6 (for a couple smears) by hand

-Zaino Z16 on tires, wells, plastic trim, and convertible top (looks great!)
-Zaino Z12 Glass Polish and #0000 Steel Wool on exhaust pipes

All in all, 95%+ of the defects were removed and the clarity, color, and reflectivity of all the surfaces was rejuvinated.

Thanks Nick, again, for the business. It was nice chatting today.

Questions/Comments/Advice, please feel free.

Cheers!

Is that pitting in the first after pick of the hood?

Not pitting so much as that fender is a re-paint and when the re-paint was done they did a rather half a$$ed job

Thanks again Sean..

Hope the traffic wasn't too bad heading back home!

Damn Sean! You do some nice work! Big improvement!:D

The Zaino on the black looks outstanding! Let me guess Z-16 on tires? NICE!

BTW, you're getting much better with the detail level of the pictures you post. I don't think anyone of us is a bigger camera nut than Scottwax when it comes to shots of finished work, but yours are up there! Looks like I better get a better camera one day too!

I'm very happy as well with the new Zaino! I just have to find a day to work out a few minor issues on the Porsche. Most of my equipment is in storage as well which blows, but one day I'll drag it out.

Sean, call me one day, I need to hook you up with some more "products" and you have to drive the Porsche yourself to judge. It's one sick-a$$ car! Best setup.... Sport button on (PSE on, ECU mapping faster, more 'wiggle-room" on PSM) then hit the shock button to put PASM back to normal valving. Sport PASM is for smooth, pool-table smooth tracks.

I'll have to try the Z-16 on "rag-tops" one day. Didn't think it would work but obviously it does. Did you thin it for wheel wells and top? Expensive usage since maybe 303 or others would be good as well. Maybe I'll try a bit of Z-16 in the engine bay on the rubber/plastic parts.

Once again, ONE HELL OF A JOB WELL DONE!!!! :bow

You used Z-16 on the soft top? Can't figure that out...I would not want such a finish on a soft top? Other than that...of course Zaino rules!

Awesome work. How much Z16 do you think you use for each detail? Plastic Polish on a tailpipe!?

Beautiful work Sean! Man, your rotary work is in another league.

You can't go wrong with that combo on Black(that needs some correction)! When my PG runs out, I'm going to try your home brew compound mix. You have the 2 step polishing process nailed.

The top looks better than new too!

Thank you :).

Dino: Z-16 on all plastic/rubber on the exterior. I applied everything by hand and did 2 layers on everything, 3 on the tires...I used about an ounce of product.

Stat: It's vinyl, not cloth :).

The Woob: I used the Glass Polish, Z-12...Its a nice polish with a bit of cut to it...the pipes had some tar and gravel buildup so I needed the abrading.

John: You won't be disappointed.

Anthony: Good point, however, those suggestions are more for the "average consumer". I have talked to Sal personally about applying Z16 to any leather, vinyl, plastic, and rubber surfaces. The key is prep and application. I followed up the top with a 'buff' session.

Furthermore, I recieved a PM from Nick saying his top beaded water after the rain and wash he gave it today.

Thanks for the good question, though.

I looked at this post from my Blackberry this morning

-and it looked dam* good!

After viewing it from my home unit this evening -OMG!

:hail

:surrender Uncle, I give! That's some impressive work my friend!

Z16 on the rag top looks even more stunning on my big screen. Well done, and thanks for the lesson.
