The Quest For Black So Glossy You Could Drown In It

Hi! I was lucky enough to find this site by clicking on an advertisement in another car-related forum.

Two years ago, I bought a brand new, 2004 Dodge Ram, quad-cab, 4x4, Hemi. When I first picked it up, it was a beautiful glossy black. Two weeks later I got a phone call from the dealership saying they made a mistake on my paperwork, and asked me to come back and re-sign. On that dreaded day they gave my truck a "courtesy wash", and the paint's been swirled ever since.

So, unfortunately it took me 2 years to realize why I couldn't remove the swirls - I was polishing prior to waxing, but I was using the wrong applicators and towels, and the wrong techniques as well.

My other cars include a '92 Nissan NX2000, also black. I just picked this fantastic little car up a few months ago from Tennessee. Aside from the paint needing some TLC, it's in nearly perfect condition. Lastly I have a '91 Nissan SE-R, which is at the body shop right now being painted white. It too was in nearly perfect condition, but having spent its entire life baking in the hot Carolina sun, the paint was cracked. This one's going to be my track toy!

So, hi to everyone, looking forward to getting to know some of you and learning a whole lot more!

Welcome and you'll find enough information to hear to literally make you go crazy! I thought I had a good foundation on detailing before reading all the info here! I think this site actually made me question myself more and more! LOL

There are a ton of helpful peeps here so if you have any questions, just post them up!

Post up some pics of the truck! I know what you went through! I even made signs for my G so they can't screw up my "NO WASH" request when I went to the dealer. I learned to make signs after their first and last time of washing the car against my request! URGH!!! I couldn't believe how much damage they can do in just one wash!

Thanks for the welcome! I'm still trying to figure out which products I should try first and where I should buy them from. There's so much to read here!

I'll post pics of my truck soon! (I just need to find the disk I put them on! :D)

After I did a lil reading on here, I decided on the menzerna line from polish to sealant for my black Expy. If I like the results, I may use it on my G or use the menzerna polishes and continue with Zaino. Haven't decided yet! There are now 5 black vehicles in my household So I have my work cut out for me!
