The negatives of Opti-Coat or cQuartz?

With these perm/semi-perm nano coating products I have a few things that I feel could cause a concern. Let me know if I'm way off base



1. Since the demos I've seen make the paint slightly darker/deeper color, what happens when you need a repaint of some panel. The paint is tinted to the coated panel and then when you re-coat the new paintwork months down the road it becomes even darker.



2. Again with paintwork. How would the shop blend into a coated area? They would inevitably end up putting some bc/cc over the coating in the blend area. Would it adhere correctly? How about long term?



What other downsides are there, aside from the obvious if the paint weren't in good shape before, application errors, etc?
 
Those are good questions if I understand them correctly.



If you have a panel that is replaced or needs repainted then it will be sanded which will remove the coating and then repainted. Obviously the repaint will be a shade lighter after said sanding and painting is complete in contrast to the rest of the vehicle which was coated. At this time (after the freshly painted panel has been fully cured) this panel can be coated and will now match the rest again.



The bigger question may sometimes be... will the repainting that was done match the color of the rest of the cars paint (coating or not) if you know what I mean
 
The good painters won't just spray to a color code, they'll tint accordingly to match what surrounds the repair. That's my concern. They match it to the "darker" paint (darker due to coating), and it looks good coming out of the body shop. But then later on when you recoat it, it gets even darker and now it doesnt match.
 
Ahhhhh, now I follow you. I guess in that case communication is key and a polishing of the panel next to it removes the coating for matching

Exactly. There are plenty of LSPs that I'd want removed from adjacent panels, it's just that coatings need to be *abrasively* removed as opposed to just being wiped off with a solvent.



My big issue with coatings is with spot-correction; I don't polish entire panels once in a blue moon, I just correct RIDS (very limited areas).
