today I had my car parked in a parking lot in a spot in the shade and door ding proof. I figured that this spot was the safest spot to park, but while i was away an old lady backed into my car!!!:angry :angry :angry ...................anyway it left a huge dent in my passenger side door. I was wondering how body shops fix this...do they push it out and repaint it or do the put on a whole new door panel? the damage is only on the door, the door and window opens fine yet. I have to take the car in on monday so i was just wondering before hand.
If the paint isn't damaged they can do PDR (paintless dent removal). I had it done when right after i bought my new/used car and it worked wonders. Got any pictures?
sorry but i dont have pics. The dent is in the middle of the passenger door . It goes from the top of the door and almost goes all the way to the bottom of the door, but the inital contact and most damage is at the center. There is a good amount of paint dammage where the contact happened. I dont know how esle to explain it...hope it helps
Did the old lady at least stop and say she did it? or just leave? I cant stand old people that just hit stuff and drive off like nothing happened.. Sometimes I do feel sorry for them though..
Yea she stopped and we talked it over. The cops came out and filled out the slip and took pitures. She was a nice old lady but it still pissed me off:wall...oh well, thats what insurance is for
If they can pull the dent out, then yes, they will have to paint. The places I see will sand the paint off, weld rods to the door, then pull the dent out..
If the paint can be fixed, I would look into PDR.
if they cannot fix the door, then I would guess they must replace the entire door.
Options are either to pull as much of the dent out as possible, fill in the rest, and then repaint, or re-skin the door with a new outside panel, and then paint to match. I, personally, would opt for the re-skin if given the choice.
