The Leather in My Car is Tacky...

...and not in a pink-flamingo-In-The-Yard kinda way. It's sticky. It's VERY Sticky. With the right shirt, I have to peel myself out of the car and I leave a nice patch of lint in my wake. I fear that the high quality  Camaro leather top coat has begun to deteriorate despite keeping it cleaned, conditioned and uv40 protected. So, now what do I do? Any way to get rid of this sticky-ness short of replacing the seat covers? Curious on the expert's opinions.

Thanks!

~One man’s opinion / observations ~

Is the leather coated? If you use a product that can’t penetrate the coating the residue will ‘sit’ on the coating and become ‘sticky’

Coated Leather:

Do not use silicone or Lanolin-based products as they have trouble reaching the leathers deep fibres, also avoid using leather-conditioning creams on coated leather as they cannot penetrate the coatings and the residue will remain leaving a greasy surface on the leather. Use a product that contains natural penetrating oils that will nourish the fibres underneath the coating and restore the leather s natural suppleness. Best applied to a warm surface to help the oils penetrate the coating (warm with the suns heat or a hairdryer) allow sufficient time (preferably overnight) for the oils to permeate the coating and the leather underneath.

a) Vinyl coated leather- use Groit’s Leather Rejuvenator or Leatherique Prestine Clean

b) Urethane Coated Leather- use Groit’s Leather Care or Leatherique Rejuvenator Oil

Perforated Leather:

Use a product that will dry without leaving a residue in the perforations of the leather or a greasy surface to the leather

~Hope this helps ~

Try giving it a good cleaning with the Woolite water diloution of 1/6 rinse as much as you can

Then apply a tiny amount of conditioner, I would bet you have too much on, easy enough to do.

I condition it about every two months or so. I use both the Zaino Z9 cleaner and Z10 Leather in a bottle. Just cleaning it with the Z9, it is still sticky. I am sure the leather is coated, but with what I am not sure. It's not the best quality leather to begin with so I would guess it's vinyl. I'll give the woolite a try and see what happens. Thanks for the ideas.

I've been using Lexol and I've had great results. My mom's been using Lexol on her saddles for 40 years and it's kept her happy.
