The journey of BMW E39 restoration story by KC

I have tried several products, including 303, Meguiar's #40, & now Mothers Back-to-Black on my exterior mirrors. The problem is that with the morning dew (or frost) they start to run and smear. Then the product runs down the side of my truck. Is there a product that will not run off when it gets wet? I have another 3 weeks until I move (and get a 3-car garage), so I have to deal with the morning dew for a little while longer.

Do you buff off the excess protectant? Try putting it on and letting it sit for a while, then buffing off the extra residue.

Another option best suited for shiny plastic is Klasse SG (Zaino Z2 as well maybe, but I haven't tried it yet). KSG will shine those things right up! Use AIO first for some good cleaning action.

[ADDED: Nice pics, nice truck! How tall of a driver fits in that truck?]

This is regular exterior mirror plastic. I have got some KSG on them by accident and it turns white. I have not thought of using Plexus, I'll give that a try this weekend. And, yes I do buff off the excess.

puterbum- I am 5' 8", I can put the seat back further and I can't reach the pedals. I would think a 6' 6" person could fit in there without any problems.

Thats strange, I use KSG on the exterior plastic of all my cars and it's never turned white.

BTW if your plastic mirror housing is faded, try some swirlmark remover (3M SMR #39009, Meguiar's #9 2.0, etc). It should shine it right up after you polish it for a bit.

I have used back to black on my mirrors with mixed results.

I apply on all surfaces then go back and buff off. They initially look great but after it rains/snows and they get wet, they seem to attract dirk like a magnet. Rest of the car is reasonably clean but this product seems to magnify the dirt.

Nice pics,,:) What do u use on the paint?? I also had that problem with my F-150 when I treated the Tonneau cover on it with 303. The only way I could keep it from streaking after morning dew ,,was by spraying the 303 on clean terry towel then buffing in that way .

It uses more product ,,but have no streaking when I apply it that way,,not sure why it works ,,but it seems to work for me . I have applied it with foam brush and let sit 15 min then buffed out with terry ,,,but had terrible streaking for the next 2 wks ,,, good luck

Hi Freeman- I use the normal stuff on the paint. In those pictures I had clayed, polished with Perfect-It III Machine Glaze, 2x AIO, 3x SG, and was using One Grand Show Off as the QD. I really like the Show Off, it is more difficult to use compared to other QD's but it makes the paint just glow.

This is a journey - of E39 restoration journey

was the successor of the BMW E34 in 1995, and itself was replaced by the E60 platform in 2003
2.JPG

was introduced in 95, the complete vehicle redesign draws heavily from the E38 7 Series in body construction and electronic technology. The mid-level BMW saloon showed evolutionary styling changes rather than a dramatic redesign

The aerodynamically designed body & this is my favourite colour (Silverado - almost paint defect invisible colour, so cool - that anyone above 45 find hard to find swirls under a noon day sun & camera proof colour (shooting imperfection - is almost impossible)

Mr H .... told me I dont seems to get my car gloss - shinning ......Hmmmm...what do u say from the 1st 2 pics....indeed it is a challenge to make silver shines
