The greatness of the Super Bowl

Mr. Clean

The Man Who Knows The Man
may end with the game itself, but getting to the game is high on my list as a football fan! All the pre-game shows are really enjoyable. Just finished Inside the Rings w/ T. Aikman, J. Bettis, D. Brees and K. Warner. Very interesting inside perspectives. Pulling back the curtain so to speak. Not throwing it wide open but giving you enough of a peek behind to be enjoyable. Bring on the next 5 hours of shows!

It feel like Christmas...LOL I enjoy the pre-game hype as well...we are headed for a buddies house a few blocks away..I've got the wings, bread shrimp and beef hot pocket things...got them all at Costco...then a few bottles of Sonoma grape juice and its PARTY TIME!

Ha! You mentioned snacks, Mrs. Clean pulls out the Super Bowl snacks...she is a GREAT football wife, always with football day snacks. But as the season progresses she throws in little upgrades here and there.

I do all the snacks here...got to make a store run here shortly

We had made a quick run Thursday night and then Friday came the snows. Yesterday the sun came out and we made the final run. She got us started yesterday evening and has been in the kitchen all morning putting the dips together and breakfast tacos to start the morning. We'll be putting the chicken in the oven for lunch and dinner. Wings and two different roasted chickens.

OK, my first criticism... (let's just say the first criticism on this forum...I've been grinchin' about it since it was announced) HOW IN THE WORLD does Dallas get the Super Bowl and the best we can do for halftime performers...lamer than lame Black-Eyed Peas. Love to eat 'em hate to hear/see 'em

Maroon Five? PLEASE!!! This is just embarrassing!

I think they got it based on that new stadium...and on the half time, Janet Jackson was busy..:rofl

Ahhh... don't knock on Mr. Clean's door during halftime. :D

:D And people who don't know me wonder why I walk around with a smile on my face :D

And ya'll knew this was coming...Christine Aguilera..."Thank you" Really??? What blatant stupidity!

Sam Elliot, outstanding choice for introductions in Texas Stadium...and to think that boy is from CA.

I had the very same thought. My wife and I just sat and looked at each other. I have no idea what the song was that she sang but it didn't resemble the National Anthem. Very poor choice.

Anyone else notice the players with their hands over their hearts during America the Beautiful?

GH, yes I noticed. Also noticed a Steeler player (couldn't catch his number) with tears streaming...Wasn't certain if he was brimming (literally) with patriotic pride or crying because of Aguliara's butchering of the national anthem. The Glee cast member (sorry don't watch so don't know her name) didn't fare much better earlier.

As a representative of Texas, let me just apologize for the B class entertainment provided. Keith Urban was about the highlight and we could have so easily done better than him (though he is a pretty fair guitar picker).

Anyway, a good football day. Good company, good food and a good game. Pleased with the outcome for several reasons.

I believe the man with tears in his eyes was William G a y #22, who in stark contrast to BYU's boy #99 Bret Keisel was found dancing around, both hands down, showing no respect during the Anthem.

As far as Christina goes, it was more than just her artistic interpretation that bothered me, she butchered the lyrics too.

She messed up the 4th line singing “O’er the ramparts we watch were so gallantly streaming?”, she merged the lyric with the song’s second line: “What so proudly we hailed at the twilight’s last gleaming?” and delivered: “What so proudly we watched at the twilight’s last gleaming?”

I did like watching/hearing Slash though Fergie can't quite pull off Axl's part. He was the entertainment's only redeeming grace in this old man's eyes.

Yes, she did not just lend her interpretation (I hesitate to add the qualifying adjective), but also apparently did not know the words. Were she some young neophyte, you might argue nerves but I believe this was not her first rodeo (well it wasn't a rodeo, and if it were I'm certain it would have been her first...:))

I also agree that Fergie did a poor job vocally with Sweet Child of Mine, but I have never been overly impressed with the talents of Slash so, it was just one more disappointment for me.

Oh I get it. I'm sure there are people out there that thought the Black-Eyed Peas were just wonderful. They had promised to keep the show "fresh". When we heard that I told Mrs. Clean I didn't care what they said they would probably open their set with the predictable...It's Going To Be A Good Night...well.....

And not just that, but here is Texas on a huge national stage. The cities want to show off Texas hospitality, food, culture etc. Heck Ft. Worth was so happy that the annual Fat Stock Show's schedule coincided with the week. Then we have a "weather event" and we don't have one (that I heard) Texas artist peforming. Not that Texas music artists solely perform in the C&W genre, but we have only one representative for that genre and he is from Australia! I don't know what the SB committee was thinking!

Adding injury to insult, we are hearing that there were some logistic SNAFUs from the NFL, such as NFL security not being able to tell attendees HOW TO GET INTO THE STADIUM! And on game day @ 1200 ticket holders were told their seats did not meet safety requirements. Exact numbers are ever shifting, but @ 800 were relocated to other areas in the stadium but the other 400 or so ended up on the field level watching the game on big screens or leaving. Reportedly the NFL is refunding their tickets at 3x face value. That may take some but not all of the sting out of that experience. And Jerry Jones comes out as the bad guy and not sure that is where all of the blame lies.

Just came here to say this - that was the worst halftime show I've ever seen. From high school and up. Terrible.

JP on behalf of the state of Texas, I apologize!

Another bitter disappointment, one of the drill teams which comprised all those girls dancing around was from my HS and my daughter is a alumni of that drill team. True enough it will be a lasting memory for them, but still they will forever linked to an overall poor halftime.

3x face won't even cover the tickets which are marked up way, way beyond face value for a "once a year / once a lifetime" event. Add in airfare, parking, hotels which would not have been needed if "tickets" weren't in hand for the game. Uh, no. Whether it was Jerry "I want an attendance record" or NFL brass or both, this is one rare time where I can say the lawsuit I smell is justified.

Maybe everyone who suffered the halftime can join in the class-action. The 'Peas' gave a black eye to the idea of halftime entertainment for certain.

I said face value, which might be misleading. The news report did mention that if they can prove they paid above face value (assuming the ability to provide a verifiable legitimate receipt from an authorized ticket outlet) then that will be a refundable expense. But again these are "reports" the facts of actual refunds have not yet been determined. But, I think the NFL is taking reasonable steps. I have no idea what the ticket values were, but 3x ticket value goes some way to covering a least a part of the expenses of hotel and travel. As far as food and drink, well I can only assume they would have done both of those back home too.

And for those who paid scalper's prices, they are out-of-luck for any overages, and I don't care. Nobody twisted their arms.

As for once in a lifetime...they play it ever year and 45 have been played so that ain't gettin' no play here.

If the Super Bowl is the Ultimate Game, why are they playing it again next year? - Duane Thomas
