The Great Hyped Discovery Channel Bike Build off

Junebug

JAFO
Anyone besides me watch the over hyped crap on Discovery? I'm still trying to figure out what it was, I'm not sure but here's my random thoughts:

Jesse James is a total douche bag and since he's no longer Mr. Sandra Bullock, he's trying to prove he's really a great bike builder, yeah right. Let's see, JJ - I build everything myself, Reality - you had to get a shop out of Dallas to help you finish, JJ - my bike is the only one ridable, Reality - maybe, it's a bar hopper at best, although Jr's is too. Lastly, Jesse, you're trailer park trash nothing more, every time you open your mouth you prove my point. My apologies to the trailer park, ya'll really didn't deserve that.

Junior is a decent guy, but for the love of God, QUIT WHINING! My father this my father that, grow up son, your old man ain't perfect but you would not be where you are today without him. You are truely part of the gimmee generation and you piss and moan about having to work. Really? I do admire you for bringing your team and giving them full credit. Lastly, shut up about your dad, move forward and try to get along.

Senior, a little research and I found out you had a little steroid habit a few years back, understandable - no really, and ya'll stay with me here, if you were rich, on TV and getting old, wouldn't you want to look big and strong? Don't give me that, you see all the ladies and their plastic surgery, and men too. But Sr, those drugs turn your grapes into raisons, they can give you heart and liver problems and affect your personality. Ya'll faithful show watchers probably noticed a kinder/gentler Sr in recent years, also a smaller and little flabby one too. Lastly, you have a great crew, I think you'll be successful cause you are willing to look way outside the box.

Conclusion? What was real? What was hype? It seemed like we were watching "pro" wrestling at times with that Discovery Channel monkey trying to egg on a fight. Honestly, the old Biker Build Off show was 100x better, and there's a guy right here in NC - Kendal Johnson, that puts them all to shame.

Rant over!

I have to agree with you. I was very disappointed about the Grand Finale super hyped.

Jr defiantly has a great vision and is an innovator of new things. Sr may get some work from movie sets for his futuristic snowmobile want to be. Jesse has some great fabrication skills, but the guy is really a douche bag as you mentioned.

Like with anything else out there, I'm sure somewhere there are very good bike builders, but they don't get a chance, exposure or the opportunity............ Just like some car detailers.

Agreed, Jesse is a dirt bag, a talented dirt bag, but still a dirt bag.

He is stuck in the past in some ways, beautiful bike, just that the TV shows and other builders have accepted that it is 2011 not 1999.

Sr. seems to have mellowed a bit, which is pleasant.

Jr. saw the future of "special builds" for bikes.

Not very ride friendly, but they do sell a show, and he does it without being an A-Hole.

Mikey seems to have calmed his demons as well.

Jr. bike was a knock-out, no matter if it is a real rider, just beautiful and creative.

Grumpy

I'm not a bike builder, not even a rider, but Jr's bike -while great looking, could have (IMHO) been just a little bit better if he had used a little smaller front wheel, keep the propellar thing, and in the back used a smaller, lot fatter rear tire with that solid wheel that they used on the 911 bike. Don't get me started on that metal seat!

I like bikes, but I am terrified to ride on the street. I have had too many friends do so and either get hurt or stop riding due to the traffic and crazy drivers. If it was just me and no wife, kids, I probably would try it. But with my luck, it wouldn't kill me and I'd be a major burden on them the rest of my existance here.

I watched one of their shows back in the first season. I'm very fortunate that I've never had to sit through another one. All the commercials and hype ever since have only reinforced my commitment to avoiding them.

I love watching skilled craftsmen build stuff. But I'm not going to waste my spare time watching idiots whine, argue, cuss and throw tantrums. That's what work is for.

Luckily, I can watch craftsmen I'd actually enjoy working with, building bikes I'd love to ride on Discovery's Velocity Channel show Cafe Racer.

I admit I watched the whole drama. I have watched the series since the start. Some episodes of late rely too much on family drama, much of which is rehashed over and over and over. If what I see is real, then I think Sr. has mellowed and wants to make peace. Kind of feel sorry for him a bit.

I was sorry to see Sr build that "machine" for the build off. It was just too off the wall and never had a chance to win. Jr's was creative, as always, but he gets too carried away on the "themes" sometimes. And Jesse is just a douche. Talented, but a jerk. The show was WAY to overhyped. I felt like I was watching American Idol or some other over-produced awards ceremony. Gag.
