The end of the year review: '02 Camaro SS w/ Zymol Vintage

Since the year is winding down, I thought that this would be the best time to give an evaluation of the wax that I began the year with. This year I used Zymol Vintage with the polish team of Zymol's HD Cleanse, Sonus SFX3 & Paintwork Cleanser, and a hint of Sonus' Acrylic Glanz b4 the first coating of Vintage.

Vintage is a softer compound than some of the other Zymol carnaubas, and in fact I found it slightly easier to apply. Vintage resolved a lot of the red, orange and yellow metallic hues in my paint as opposed to some of the waxes that I used before it.

Here is a run-down of some favorite shots of the year: First is the beginning of the season (April) after the polish and first layerings.

In all it has been a satisfactory season with this wax. I may experiment perhaps with a different polish team or a different combination of polishes just to see if I can notice a change. Have a Good New Year everyone!

What did you think of the durability during the hot months? For me weather over 90 plus always ended up reducing the beading fairly quick with any of the Zymols I tried.

The car looks great, really nice colour reproduction from Vintage. If your anything like me,i bet you can't wait until next year to start over.

Thanks guys/ladies. NY can present challenges in terms of climate and driving conditions. That is why I cherish my daily driver, which takes much of the punishment away from car 1.

Yakky, I didn't see this wax waning in any way; However I should point out that this car doesn't see the elements, and on a given day it won't stay out in the sun for an extended period of time. But......my garage (unheated and uninsulated) can reach very high and very low temperatures during the height of the season.

Thanks everyone. Yes it poses some unique challenges living in NY with the weather and driving conditions. That is why I value my daily driving vehicle, as it takes the brunt of the punishment duties away from car1.

Yakky, I did not find that Vintage waned at all during my season; However I should note that this car did not see the elements or did it stay out under the sun for an extended time. My garage, however, does reach extremes of hot and cold during the year (due to white cladding and no insulation or heat!).

Wise, your right. The end of the year and winter hibernation does make you anxious for the warm months and the start of waxing season. You always end up wanting more and/or different.

Thanks!! Dave I know you had some experience with Zymol, so your words were encouraging.

Scott, thanks to you too. I ended the season with 10......yes 10 layers of the Zymol (I am a waxaholic, but in fact I was down from my usual 12-15 from last year). You do not, however, really require this much wax with Vintaaaaghe (or to be honest any of the EGZymols) because this compound contains a higher concentration of carnauba. I paid special attention to the amount of wax I deliberately put on this year. I found that this wax didn't need any coaxing, as it went to work immediately. I spaced out the layerings very slowly, so in fact I allowed ample time for the previous layers to dry b4 adding more. I didn't have the residual hazing that's common with adding too much wax too soon, but you could also thank my Sonus QD and some washings in between for that.

The car looks good, as the year goes on, the car looks better, very nice. I am impressed. So you applied 10 coats, thats not bad.

Just out of curoisity, do you use Vintage on your daily driver (since you have an unlimted amount).

Also with the 10 waxes how much of the jar did you use, i wonder as i am looking at getting vintage and wonder about a few things.

Thankx for the info

I didn't think you'd ever show up. Hey........that's supposed to be a secret.......shhhh!!

J/K. I don't use it on my daily driver because although Vintaaaaghe is a bit easier to apply, it still takes a considerable amount of time to put one layer on. Having more than one car to detail makes time an essence. My daily driver gets p21s, which is a dream to apply. With a little work and persistence it can develop a powerhouse shine in its own right, as well as being quite durable.

You should see a lot of what I mean once you get around to trying Concours (actually I got tired of waiting for you...and I had all of these darned pics so whala!).

As far as the dosage, I put 10 + on my car for several reasons. One...with the daily driver, you will need to accumulate and dry that amount to get a good coating so as to fight off the elements. Two, I am a waxaholic, and I appreciate the liquid qualities that several cured layers of wax can give you with the right handling. You can get a great shine, however, with just one or two coatings (I felt my element, not plateau, was reached at coating #6, which is Zymol's recommended limit b4 re-cleaning).

Additionally, it has been my experience that you should be able to squeeze about nine coats out of your Concours' jar. You should be able to get at least one or two on your car to see results.

beautiful job..Ive been waiting to see sunset orange metallic polished by some of you guys. Good job, its good to see a camaro on here finally!

Maxi:

Perhaps I may try that next season. The HD Cleanse I found to be milder than the sonus cleanser, though both are about the same weight. Sonus' cleanser I found to have had just a hint of cutting power, which was nice. If I don't need any more cutting power next season I may switch the rotation and see what happens. Thanks for the comments everyone.

You can get only 9 applications out of 1 jar of Concours? For comparison, how many do you get from P21S? From Vintaaaaghe ?
