Ok guys, Im looking to get a duster for my car as I cannot allocate the time to wash or qd everyday, but i would like to get the usual dust off everyday I come home b4 the dew sets in so I can keep my car a bit cleaner. Back on topic, I compared both the cali car duster and the turtle wax duster at mejer tonight, and they both are exactly the same except the turtle wax has the wooden handle for 10 bucks while the cali is the same but with a plastic handle. Are both these products the same materials, is turtle wax just a rebadged cc duster or is it a cheaper model?

Thanks,

Aaron

MeiJers, that brings back memories, I used to get to Battle Creek/Kalamazoo on Biz often. Is there anything you cant get in a Fred Meijers store? From Propane to Produce and clothes. For what im used to that store is amazing.

I cant help you on the duster, I use a CCD, I would guess there isnt much difference though. I think they even smell alike......

I bought a CCD w/plastic handle and it doesn't seem nearly as thick as my wooden handled CCD. Wish I'd have taken it out of the wrapper prior to getting it home. Just bought it as it was only $10 at the opening of a new auto parts store. It seems to be a cheaper model.

The CCD has been around for more than 20 years (I have one that old at least!)

It works, and you can even wash them (Woolite in cold water - hand only - air dry).

Why even consider the'new guy'?

My 2 cents.

Go with the CCD, its the original and apparently still the best. I would suggest leaving it to air out on a few pieces of newspaper for at least a week to allow for the extra paraffin to seep into them from the duster. Using it right away will result in smearing.

One product I posted about that apparently did not come to production, at least not yet, is a duster by OXO. Very interesting to see how it performs compared to the CCD if it comes out. I'm certain it has a better handle at least.

see the thing is the turtle wax one has the wood handle, is the same shape as the cali duster, but is 10 bucks cheaper than the cali wood duster. It looks a lot more plush than the cali plastic car duster, and for being the same price as the plastic one, i really dont see why the cali is any better.

Whatever works for you, just be sure to get rid of the excess paraffin first. I occasionally still use Kozak cloths. In some instances I find they work better than the CCD. When there is a heavy amount of pollen in the air in spring around here for example. The Kozak hasn't scratched for me either. So both a CCD and a Kozak cloth line my back seats. :) Use the old Kozak cloths to wipe wheels.

i guess im just kinda confused as to why cali would sell a plastic handle car duster when the wood one is so much better, but the turtle wax one(wood handle) seems to be a lot better quality than the plastic handle cali duster side by side. I guess im saying cost is an issue kind of, since i would love to get it locally, but to me, it looks exactly like the cali duster and feels like it in every way.

Is it just that the wood handle is better on both the CCD and TW ones or are the mop heads better too?

Here's my take on the CCD... it's all hype! Well the paraffin thing anyway. IMO the reason the CCD works better the dirtier it gets is because the paraffin is either gone or covered up. So now you have a good old fashioned mop on a handle which works very well. Whether the handle is wood or plastic is not important, I bought my CCD at Kmart and it's plastic.

You can just as easily use a cotton dusting mop, a feather duster or better yet a cotton or MF detailing towel passed over the surface will also remove the dust and, in fact, do it faster.

I agree, I have something from each category: the CCD, 100% cotton, plenty of mfs, and a Kozak cloth. I guess its "eeny-meeny-miny-mo" when it comes to what to use to dust off the car.

The TW CCD looks exactly like the original CCD. Except it's green! I bet'cha the CCD is making them for TW. TW can sell them cheaper because they don't have the adversiting expense that CCD does. Heck, look at the dash duster. It's also the same as CCD's. Except it's green.

I'm happy with my plastic handle CCD from Pep Boys.Heck, I have 5 I've collected over the years, they never let me down. Will take a close look at TW duster if I see it. Doubt I'll buy it for the sake of buying.

ive just bought a wooden handled cali duster and its a fantastic product. Does what i says it does, no more dust...lovely. Left it in newspaper for a few days too....no problems with smearing at all. Jobs a good'en........"as seen on TV?"....... not on mine!

I think it might be worth a closer inspection. The original CCDs have a funky, waxy smell that is the paraffin in the ropes. I don't know how that helps specifically, but I like the idea that it's there and it's not just a plain mop. I've seen some cheaper dusters that claim to be "impregnated" with wax or silicone, but when you feel and sniff the fibers, they seem like plain, untreated material. :nixweiss

It's not like this is magical technology or anything, so if it seems really similar to the CCD you might want to see if there are any stray strands of rope lying around that you could take home and test first.... ;)

I wish I knew the wooden handle CCD's still exist. A few years ago I bought my current plastic handled CCD and the handle has some serious cracks in it. It's only a matter of time before I need a new one.:( Maybe I shake it too hard? :nixweiss
