The DF Concours Towel Thread...

I have a number of them, and love them for removing LSP's and QD'ing. Although, I don't have any of the new blend that you will be getting (changed last year). So, I'm not sure that they have improved?

When you get them, wash them a couple times to minmize linting. Other than that, I think you will be pleased. :D

I've liked them for a long time. In terms of wax removal, they are the ultimate for me. They are pretty good for QDing with carnauba based ( Crystal Mist) QDs although I'd opt for the traditional synthetic fiber MFs for more "general purpose" QDing. They are constructed very well and are quite durable. Simply due to the nature of the fiber however, one does have to inspect them after every wash to occasionally trim strands that become loose. Not a real big deal and this does not create an issue with overall longevity. My originals from 3 years ago perform wonderfully and in fact, seem to be softer and work better with age.

I recently picked up a few Concours wax applicators which I am enthusiastic about using during my next spit shine. :)

Heh, I'm the opposite of Bill. I don't like them so much for wax removal, they don't have any bite to them. But I LOVE them for QD work and for drying with QEW. They are very soft, and have a deep nap. They are an exceptional towel. And mine have aged very well too. Mine don't seem softer with age, but comparing some of mine that are 3-4 years old with some that are pretty new, the difference is very minor.

I don't think they'll replace all your towels or anything, but they will be a top notch addition to them.

I have them too. I got them when Autopia had a closeout on towels with black edging which to my dismay is rather rough. However, the sale indicated I could not return them. Oh well. I guess that's why they were on sale. I think this was a unique, one time batch as every other one I see has white edging and I've heard zero complaints about it. So I have to use them carefully. I enjoy them for BOTH wax removal and QD. I don't like them for heavy wax removal like Collinite, rather more for thin coats of Souveran and Nattys.

These towels are nothing like the MF towels we all use. They feel like silk and the looped fibers aren't bunched together. They lie flat to the towel rather than standing upright. There is no real pile or plushness rather a silky suede-like feel. VERY unique. There is nothing on the market like it.

I do not like the polish pockets that Bill got. The wax clogs the fibers and mats them down. In fact, I don't like them at all for wax application. A damp foam applicator is still king for me.

One MAJOR pet peeve I have is the looped fibers getting caught on corners and emblems as it pulls. I ALWAYS get a snag when I use it and have to clip it off.

But overall, for your uses Lee, I think it will be perfect for you to remove Zaino, apply Z6 or Z8 (although you might like a traditional MF better) and to help dry after a free rinse.

You'll like them.

Seth, thanks for letting me know and I'll definitely take that into consideration. At this point, it sounds like they might have to head to the trash bin. :(

Yes, BUT, the edging was different and Davidb wanted to get rid of them because of that.

Don't worry, you're fine. It was a one time thing with mine that wasn't up to snuff, so I grabbed them cheap.

My review applies to your towels (minus the edging).

Don't throw them out! They are too nice for that. Remove the foam insert and use it as a finger pocket for all the ways you use the towel, but for nooks and cranies. Also, use them in the interior. They're neat like that.

Yes it was.

I agree on using the polish pockets for wax... doesn't work for me either. I washed mine out thoroughly, and use them to clean my computer monitor and glasses. :D

In the end, if you have some great MF towels like Ranney's Ultra Fine's or others, you may not see much of a difference in performance. Still, they are nice for removing many products.

I've the grey/black Autopia ones too. The edging is rougher than the DF Towel edging. I've never had any problems with the grey ones, though. But they aren't my preference either, as it's hard to tell how dirty they are getting due to the color.

And they do snag easy. But you'll probably get more careful after you snag them a few times. Trimming pulled loops seems to have no detrimental effect. My towels never started unraveling because of it or anything.

I did the CD test on the white Autopia Concours towels, and it scratched the CD with just a gentle amount of pressure. It's a shame, because these towels are great at buffing off polishes and wax. Has anyone else conducted the CD test on their Concours towels to see if they scratch?

Did CD scratch tests on all my DF towels and had no problem at all.

I got them a couple of months ago and I just love them.

Did you wash the towel before you CD tested it?

Thanks for taking the time to do the CD test too and posting your results!

I've had two of these towels for about a year now, so they've been used and washed a few times. Up until now, I figured that soft as the Concours are, they were probably not causing scratches - I'd been using them for buffing off wax and QD.

But yesterday, I was doing the CD test on some Costco MF and for kicks, thought I'd compare how the Concours fared - surprisingly, the Costco MF didn't scratch unless there was excessive pressure, while the Concours left scratches all over the CD. :doh

I'm sure many "long time" users will chime in here to refute your findings. The Autopia Concours have never shown to scratch.

If you're having these problems it is most likely related to foreign matter in the towels, I really doubt your findings that a Costco towel is better than a Concours towel.
