the cheapest secret to clean tires

scrub tires with comet
it seems like everyone has probs getting old tire gel and glaze off their tires, or dealing with tire browning. the only way to actually get the tires back to the way they were when they were new is scrubbing them with ajax or comet. i promise you that there is nothing on the market that will give you the results this will. i learned this from an old school detailer and its never failed me. white walls/letters turn out looking amazing. hope this helps someone out.

Yes ajax/comet is good for tires white walls but its not the only way to get them clean like you say. There are many products out there that will give you the same results. For instance i use special cleaner from automagic and my pressure washer at 2500 psi and they come out looking new.

It is a very good tip though.

old school ...... this is what i use for everything ..it will clean your tires and dress them at the same time

good idea.

any adverse effects that can come from this?[/QU

ive had nothing but good results. ive never known of any damage or side effects coming from it. there are other products that will give you the same results, but for a couple bucks a can, its hard to beat.

Be careful of removing the anti UV and anti ozone waxes placed in the compostion of the tires with household chemicals. This is not something readily apparent. I'd always select a product designed specifically for cleaning tires first and then weeding out the selection from there.

I use good dressings like 303 and and some of the other PDMS water based dressings and I never get browning of the tires. So all I need to clean is car wash soap and a brush.

well not the cheapest, but automagic magnificent. it is used to clean mag wheels, nbut when you spray it on the tires, it immeditaely turns brown. pressure wash it off at 2200 psi, and tires look new. it simple cuts out a step in the process. instead of cleaning tires, then wheels, you simply spray the magnificent on the wheel and tire, pressure wash it and you are done. however the wheels have to be cool because the magnificent is some hardcore stuff. i have been detailing for years and havent seen anything work this good on wheels. best bug remover out there too. shhh dont tell anyone lol

Good tip, but when you spray the tires off it runs down onto your clear coated, polished etc wheels and stains/etches them. I use TOL's tires cleaner or Super Clean 2:1. Wesley's Bleach white is caustic and horrible for wheels, but it does clean the tires well.

As always Bill, very good advice. Use the "correct tools" for a specific job, and you will usually come out with stellar results.

Haha...just saw this new smiley - BillD, the detailing ninja :shuriken:

Ajax/comet has been used to clean tire and whitewalls long before all the cleaning and dressing products that are on the market now. Ireally don't see
that these products will have any effect on the tires..
I use W-B-W on my tires with RWL's..instead of srayping it on. I pour some on
a brass bristle brush...do the scrubbing...hose off...no problems with overspray
