The Boss system versus a scotch brite pad!

New client who said he got a deal on this 2010 BMW. But when he called he said it had some issues where the original owner had removed bird droppings from the top. Well we had no clue! He dropped it of at dusk, so I didn’t get to pull it in the shop to look. Well, as you will see, someone thought it was a good idea to use a scuff pad! I’ve been in this business for 20 years and I gotta tell you this is the most destroyed paint I’ve seen! So we went with Griot’s fast correction cream on a microfiber pad using the G21. Multiple cutting steps were required to get about 80% improvement. Some deep gouging remained as we removed.3 mils from our starting point and figuring it had been polished in the past we didn’t want to go anymore. This was extremely difficult paint to correct! Polishing done with Griot’s perfecting cream on a yellow perfecting pad followed by Modesta Primer on a black finishing pad. Coated paint with Modesta BC08, no coating on wheels or glass, tires with Griot’s black satin. Total of 5 1/2 hours on the top and 3 hours on the sides and bumpers. Just a miserable job! We were pleased at the results as was the client. Thank you for looking!

Awesome job! You make griots seem like it has magical properties. Your work and all that you post was what made me feel the BOSS g15 was as capable as the Rupes polishers. In fact going to Griots this week so the can show me how to use it.

Thank you guys! I don’t believe in that hard or soft thing, it’s either easy to correct or difficult. Because some cars with what is called “ soft “ paint are just as difficult as the so called “hard” paints. This as far as paint goes, with the Boss system was fairly easy to correct the in scuffed areas.

We’ll leave the “soft” low solids versus “hard” high solids discussion for another time.

The car turned out great, btw the way. I do have one question though. Do you think in the moment like this, Optimum Clear Coat Restore could have come in handy? Why or why not?

The G15 is no joke, especially when paired with a Lake Country Extra Cut Wool Pad, it cuts quite quickly. But still not as fast as a rotary with the same pad. These BMW paints respond very well to being cut with a rotary.
 
I don’t know about the optimum product, have never been a fan of the line. As far as a rotary, don’t own one. I’d rather not chase out the work a rotary puts in the paint taking the damage out. Just me.
