I wanted to put out a public thanks to DJ Mayo (Got Leather) of Reflections Detailing in VA. We have been talking about working together for some time now, and this weekend he finally got the opportunity to drive all the way up to Ohio to help me out.
I was already worn out from a marathon session on a couple of very rare Ferraris earlier in the week (288 GTO and 275 GTB/4), so an extra set of hands was welcomed!
I had a black Audi A4 to work on, and knew it was in bad shape. Well it ended up being in much worse shape than I thought, and the paint was much harder than the usual Audi stuff. This car looked like it had been washed with a rake for years...lots of very deep scratches and swirled up like crazy. On many areas it took up to 4 passes with 105 and a leveling wool pad, followed by several finishing passes just to get the desired 85% correction rate.
When all was said and done we put 21.5 man hours into this beast. I worked the leveling, and DJ followed me with all of the finish polishing (I managed to spit plenty of 105 all over him in the process). I would have had a lot of difficulty finishing this car up by myself given how wore out I already was, and DJ proved to be a real life saver and a very talented detailer as well.
That evening we went out and ingested a few cold ones and some large chunks of beef, and then the next morning I took him to a private show of old Mercedes (from '63 to '72 I believe). We had a great time, then DJ headed back out for the 7 hour trip home.
Once again, thanks DJ! :bow
Here's what we were dealing with...be afraid, be very afraid!
