Hello Everyone,

I own a Black Silverado which I baby almost everyday except for the winter months.

It has Rail and liftgate Caps, and I'm looking for some help in keeping these items clean and stopping them from fading if its possible.

I usually use the painters blue tape before I apply any wax or sealants, to the paint. 1 Coat every other day weekdays only, Wife gets me on weekends.

Here is what i have tried already..
Wax Blaster, mothers Back to Black, Black again, Meguiar?s Vinyl & Rubber Cleaner & Protectant, Klasse AIO, ArmorAll.

Non of the above works, actually they do and then the next day its back the way it was, and if thats not bad enough, I rinse the vehicle everyday if the temp is above 50F, and some of the above mentioned items run down onto the paint, and OMG try taking that off, especially Mothers Back to Black.
One day i didnt rinse and the next day it rained oh Geeez. But i did find a way to take the stuff off, Simple Green!

So i purchased Forever Black Bumper & Trim Dye Kit to apply.

Unless someone here knows how i can solve this problem.
Replacing the covers is not an option unless there is no otherway, only because I will have to remove the Roll&Lock Cover off the bed.

I was looking for someone to custom fabricate a tailgate cap out of Black plexiglass, but i cant find a place or a person that can.

Any help or suggestions on cleaning the caps would be great.

Thanx In Advance
Claude :D

Black Wow!

As long as you follow the directions, this stuff is gold. And don't be worried by the cost per size. A little goes a LONG way!!

GREAT stuff!!

I was going to recommend Forever Black. Its a dye, not just a dressing. Did you just buy it, but havent tried it yet?

bought it, havent tried it yet.
Im willing to try it, but i need to seal it, so i dont have to keep dying it.

Any runs, when water hits it lets say 3 days later?
that seams the problem with most of these dressings.

Thanx for the reply

I havent experienced any running from 303. I would spray it on an applicator pad, and go over the surface with a microfiber towel to remove any extra.

yep, thats exactly what i do with everything, will try it this weekend.
If this fails, then i'll order and try the Black WoW. As Per D!tailed recommendation.

Hi Dan,

I finally got a chance to do the rail caps and tailgate cap.
I used 303 Fabric/Vinyl Cleaner with a medium bristle brush to get it clean.
wiped off any residue, there was non, it dried in 20 minutes.
Left it for 2hrs. while i started polishing the hood.
came back it looked good and clean and dry, then I applied 303 Aerospace Protectant with a microfiber applicator, a little amount at a time, rubbing it in.
I did the caps, and the tailgate cap and the Roll-N-Lock Tonneau cover, gave it about 30minutes and went over everything with a fresh towel to abosorb any excess. went back to work on the hood. and it started getting late, i cleaned up and looked at the caps and wiped down again, dry, nice booootiful!!!:)

It rained this morning, 303 is all over the paint  it actually ran from the top all the way down to the bottom of the truck, just like the rest of the stuff i have used, same problem.
Pixs are attached.

I am willing to try other ideas, if you have or anyone else has.

Thanx In Advance

I have the same truck as you do.

What works for me is pre cleaning with Meguiars APC an dressing with Meguiars GC Trim Detailer

Than for the reply Z71
I will try that, i can pick those up locally.

Claude

What brand Rail Caps you have on yours?
Mine are Wade brand textured.

Black Wow. You are gonna kick yourself for waiting once you finally pick some up. ;) It's a huge product with SAAB-folks as the trim on those cars seems made to fade.

Pictures of the trim you are trying to work on?

Prep - use a d-limonene (citrus-based) solvent like P21S Total Auto Wash before the application of a dressing
