Terrible carpet...Suggestions?

I'm working on a Jeep for a local dealership and the passenger floorboard is terrible. I've pretty much exhausted my resources so I figured I'd post pics on here and see if you guys had any suggestions.

The carpet is incredibly sticky...almost like someone poured syrup or tar on it. There was a mat over the carpet and, in places, the rubber on the mat has actually come off and is stuck (almost like its melted) to the carpet. Everywhere that's lightly colored/matted down is sticky, and all the dark blotches are from the back of the floor mat.

I've tried everything from degreaser to lacquer thinner and nothings been able to budge it. I even tried scraping the rubber off with a screwdriver, which kind of worked...but the floors still incredibly sticky under it and thats a painstakingly slow process.

Any suggestions?

I am pretty sure your right about melted carpet. What year is the Jeep? I'll bet if you pull back the carpet at the firewall you will see whats left of mold on the undermat. The condenser drain is clogged and the water backs up onto the floor! And whoever the person is that traded this car in tried to dry the carpet out with a heat gun! Only on the passenger side right??

That is some impressive jeep knowledge and deductive skills, sir! Blown away by that lol

Yes...its just the passenger side. From everything I've tried, I don't know of anything else to tell them except to cover it up with a floor mat. I'm thinking its just too far gone.

+1 on that.

I wish I could say I was that smart, but I had a Jeep and started to experiance a clogged condenser! It can turn into a nasty mess if not corrected! I have had a few customers with moldy wet carpet and after cleaning the carpets I also sold the repair to them so it wouldn't happen again!

Without sounding mechanically-challenged, can this condensor drain be cleaned by easily, or is it a labor-intensive-special-tools required task??

Thanks for this information and head-up about Jeep carpets on the passenger side. Some vehicles have "quirks" (we in the engineering field refer to them as "design flaws") that may not be well-documented or public knowledge. Plugged drains in general (door frames, windshield cowles, trunk lid channels) lead to alot of problems.

Fall debris (dead tree leaves) can get into these places, sit all winter, and won't be cleaned out until that first nice spring day when many people do their it's-been-there-all-winter car cleaning. That's one reason I like a wash-n-rinse car wash using garden-hose water pressure to rinse those drains. It seems the lower front fenders behind the front wheel well collects alot of road and tree debris. With the front door open, I spray (in moderation) into this area with a hose to clean it out. You'd be suprised how much debris comes washing out from doing this.
