Telemarketers.

I don't like them much either. "If" they call I stop them in their tracks and say; no thanks then hang up...

Around here we say that all the time. We have at least 4 companies that call every single day, and sometimes even on Sundays. :redcard:

:excited:
I wish that would work. When my older brother still lived at the house, he would answer the phone and put on a phoney voice; then just mess with them... Sometimes he would act like he answered the phone on the toilet.:rofl

I wish phones came with an easy to use "block" feature that once it's engaged the phone will no longer accept calls from this number, no ring, no nothing....:bigups

For those of you who never heard this, it will have you rolling on the floor:

They certainly can be annoying, but it is somebody's job. Someone is willing to pay and someone is willing to take the pay.

Strikes me as kind of an odd reason to start a thread.

i cant stand when i get a telemarketing call. "hi this is billy, your friend in san diego, ive got those magnets that you asked me about last week" huh?
or how about the hearing impared scam?
its hard to not pick up the phone bc there are so many new area codes. people are using google voice & that will give you a wierd area code.
i had a 860 call a few months ago & hung up bc i thought it was a credit card company lol. we have all been through this. turns out it was a customer from new haven ct that left me a voice message. i booked his new audi for a deep scratch fixing on his hood & a light polish & make $200 bucks off that job. he came to me to wetsand some scratches as an alternitive to painting it. he drove from about 2 hrs away.
i now have no choice but to pick up all calls from wierd area codes.
the best call recently came this week. one of those bull police donation organizations begging for $ to help end kidnappings. i told him i hate cops & if i want to make a donation ill visit a local temple in bk & hung up the phone.
sometimes i like to put the phone on speaker & place it next to the radio & put on the spanish station or even some static. its amazing, these people just wont hang up & whats even more funny is most of the time there is a second call HA!
what about those calls where they ask for your first & last name? yea bc i want to talk to those people? ive been getting a call from a credit card compay for some spanish girl for a few months now. its annoying..... i am not jenniffer rodriguezzzzz!
what about those energy companies that claim they work for con ed? yea, con ed is going to raise my bill not offer to lower it! i tell those people to get a real job!

I just tell them to hang on please and then quietly hang up the phone...I wonder how long they actually wait HEHEHE

School starts up wed. so I'll be home a lot more. I may try this a few times if I get bored reading....:rockon

Telemarketing works for millions of people. It's their job. A polite no thank you works if you're not interested. Instead of collecting unemployment, they hang in there and keep trying, even when encountering rude people on the phone.

Some of you who detail as a profession should try it. A smartly composed script will probably increase your sales and profits.

While these calls might sometimes be annoying and possibly inconvenient they really aren't anything to work up a lather about. Technology provides us several remedies for dealing with these calls without being a jerk. Of course for anyone who chooses to take that route...what goes 'round can always come 'round. Good luck with all that.

This thread was just an "off topic" thread... I did not intend to rip on all telemarketers. It's just that a few call the house EVERYDAY as in, Mon-Sat, and sometimes Sunday. It's the same numbers, and we've had out number on the "do not call list" since its inception. They do not cease to call the house. They call EVERYDAY, regardless of what we tell them. We have told them that we are not interested, and have even told them that we are on the do not call list. It doesn't matter what we tell them, they will continue to call. Maybe we can claim harassment?

On the same site where you signed up for do not call there is an area to report those that still call.

It's their job to call you everyday. It's how they get paid.

As others have mentioned, there are steps to take that will prevent or cut down on sales calls.

Are any of these charity or fundraiser calls?

How many politicians call you to ask for support?

Yeah there is a National Do Not Call Registry and I believe many, if not all states have theirs too. Thing is at least here, I think you have to pay to be on it.

For those receiving these calls on cells, I'm pretty sure you can download a "silence" custom ring tone on just about any of them, at least I know you can with iphones. Hopefully the annoying number calling shows up on caller ID, add it to your contact and assign it the custom "silence" ring tone. I have to do this occasionally and it provides some relief. If they leave a voicemail, just delete it;you don't have to listen to it. I downloaded the free ring tone a while back, so I don't have link handy but I'm sure its pretty easy to Google.

We rarely get calls from charities or politicians.

I have not tried reporting these numbers to the do not call after they keep calling.

Of those that call everyday(not going to name any names):

A phone company

An insurance company

A mortgage refinance company

One I'm not sure what they do.

I think over the next two days I'm going to work to stop these companies from calling the house everday. I've got online classes starting wed. and the last thing I need is the phone ringing every ten minutes while I'm taking a quantitative methods test.

Maybe I will just disconnect the phone...

That works! We discontinued our landline years ago when iPhone came out.We don't receive any solicitations on the cell phones.

Voicemail is also an option on landline phones. Of course not many solicitors leave a voicemail unless it's a politician.

i understand people have a job to do but its annoying. i dont want to use any of those blocked number services bc i dont want to loose a potential customer. so now i try to pick up the phone every time in a polite way but once i smell out the bs i go off on them!
