Teaching young folks to fish...

My boss at Meguiar's recently asked me to change the focus of the detailing clinics Meguiar's hosts on Saturdays to really target teaching people skills they can use for a lifetime.

Kind of like the old say, Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day, teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.

Over the weekend I had the perfect opportunity to do just this. A young man that admitted he knew nothing about detailing cars showed me his truck, which was covered with white enamel overspray.

I told him if he wanted to learn how to fix it himself, I would show him how, he took me up on my offer and came by early last Saturday morning ready to get busy!

Here's a picture of the white overspray on the hood of his car, the clean spot you see is where we tested the overspray to see how hard it would be to remove.

Here he is starting out,

First pass around the truck with ColorX and a PC, first time he ever used one of these by the way.

You can read the entire write-up and see all the pictures on the below link, fair warning, it is picture intensive, so dial-up beware.

I also took him into my office and introduced him to both Autopia and of course, Meguiar’s Online. He can figure the rest out for himself with some reading and experimenting.

Very nice transformation. All of the write-ups you post are awesome. That is definetly the best way to teach someone. He will want his truck to look like that forever now.

Very cool!!

Ahhh. Grasshopper did not remove his watch.

So is he a convert or just a happy dude with a sparkling ride?
