Tape off trim when polishing/waxing?

What is the best way to avoid getting any product on the outside trim, window seals, etc? Do you tape them off? If you do get some on do you just use a cleaner and reapply some dressing? Thanks!

Many people tape trim. Yes, clean and reapply as needed.

Not to sound like a d!c# but I have been reading many articles on many topics for the last 2 days now and have a few questions I needed cleared up. I thought that is what the forum was for. Just trying to soak up all the info I can. Thanks!

This forum is for asking questions. Try to start one thread w/ as many questions in it as you can and just add onto that thread when you think of more. Will keep the clutter down on the board.

Check out this link and Download the autopia detail book if you haven't already.

BTW, I sent you a PM. Hit User CP up in the top right around the search button to find it.

Hey thats kool I will do that. I am getting ready to try to start a business and am making sure I am well educated before I do. Thought I knew alot but man there is alot of info in here! Thanks again!

Where is the best place to get the tape? I saw a pic of LouisanaJeeper's stang taped off. Looks like it would save alot of time with cleaning wax off trim pieces.

Home Depot or Lowe's. It's the Blue Painter's tape.

I have some 3M Blue Painters tape... avaliable anywhere...

I think some people like using a Green colored tape by 3m, im not sure what its properties are. You just want a tape that isnt going to leave any residue behind.

I think the 3Ms Blue Painters Tape is a ‘quick release’ and doesn’t leave residue behind when removed. Use it whenever you are using a machine to apply polish or wax to avoid ‘sling’ that needs to be cleaned from wheels, trim or even the garage walls. I get mine from the local branch of Lowes

My advice is to read DavidB’s detailing book and the posts at Autopia university, if you need clarification or still have unanswered questions after using the Search function, ask someone will be glad to help (that’s how we all learned)

~Hope this helps~

Coscto has the 4 pack of this tape for 10-11 bucks. Well worth it as the best single roll price that I have found is about 3.25. If you have a membership or know someone that does, give em a 20 and have them get you a gift card and you can go in and get what you want.
