talked to local mirror glaze guy!?!?!?

Card Fan!
I had an interseting talk with the guy at my local Mirror Glaze store. He said there is no difference in there Hi Tech yellow wax and any other carnuba wax, including Pinnacle or Zymol or PS21. Also he said that putting more then one layer of anything on is a complete waste of time. Also said it doesnt do any good to put on more then one type of product, like a wax over a sealant. I didnt argue with the guy, he said he had been working for Meguires for 35 yrs.

He works for Meguiar's or sells Meguiar's? I would not get any more advice from him either way. LOL

We waxed the urinals for a living :rofl

Maybe though, he is right and all of us are wrong.... Hmmm makes you think :bolt

Hello, fellow Louisvillian!

I have been to that store several times. I checked them out, and there does not seem to be any relation to Meguiar's Inc. Their prices seem to be pretty high on Meguiar's products - higher than Meg's own list prices. I don't know how they get away with using the Mirror Glaze name. Meguiar's lists them as a distributor under the name "M & G Dist.," so I doubt they even know the store is using their Mirror Glaze name. I have talked to several guys behind the counter, some know a little bit about what they are talking about...and then there's the guy you talked to! :doh

For getting straight information, I have found the store to be less than helpful, but I can find a locally available, elusive product there every now and then. They do carry some hard to find products, including some RaggTopp stuff, Unigrit finishing papers, etc.

Umm... Wahrheit...

This is entirely off-topic, but since you brought it up, the spelling of the word you are questioning is taken from a quote from Dr. Balthasar Hubmaier of Friedberg. He lived during the late 15th - early 16th century. Please see any of his books for the spelling, as it was his trademark motto. (I am referencing Schriften.) I am aware that the modern spelling is wahrheit as you have indicated, but I am simply quoting a much earlier source. I am sure that you would understand the etymology and morphology of the word much better than I, so any corrections or clarifications would be appreciated.

Bence, I always appreciate your critical eye and attention to perfection. Thanks for noticing the quote!

Hey John, thanks for the info. I didnt want to argue with him. Im sure he thinks hes right. By the way, what part of Louisville are you from?

John,

Thanks for the clarification. I wasn't aware that it was in fact a quote from the days of Herr Hubmeier. My studies contained only the modern spelling, but yes, the 'ancient' German spelling was indeed Warhait. I hope I won't burn in the purgatory as Balthasar did...

Thanks for the little historicum! ;)

You bet. I remember being excited to hear about the store, and then I visited it and was pretty let down.

I live in Crescent Hill. I've only been here for a couple of years, and probably won't be here long term. What about you? I see you are a Cardinals fan.

I don't know what you guys are making a fuss about, sounds pretty much like the Meg's company line to me: Our waxes are as good as any others, layering is a fantasy, and you just need one good Meg's product (LSP), not a bunch of them.

If you follow the Autopian logic of process > product, and the fact that most people can't tell the difference between LSP's visually, and also that most people wouldn't bother with topping one product with another, and the guy's advice doesn't seem off-base.

That is the main reason why I advocate actual experimentation instead of listening to heresay. There is a wealth of benefit by trying different combinations of products. There have been, in addition to heresay, heated arguments concerning the issue of layering. It is no myth, as pure waxes will layer (or should I say accumulate......)?!?!

Third, anyone that believes that there are no differences between carnauba products I would tend to doubt how much actual experience that person has in using carnauba based products.

Experimenting and trial and error will reveal the truth to myths, as well as lasting results.

Bence,

Oh, don't worry about Balthasar! :chuckle: By the way, if you don't mind if I ask, what exactly do you do professionally? Your posts are always very helpful and informative. I value your insights highly, and I am curious about what your background is like.

Thanks,

John

I may have to run by that store just for fun when I pick up my younger boy at his Mom's in Dry Ridge late next week!

Most people probably do not care what the difference is in waxes and sealants. But if you do a comparision they would see the difference. All those people care about is price. But a real autopian can tell the diference. On my red I can tell big differences in some polymers based sealants and waxes. I can tell the difference between one coat of Souveran and two coats. JMHO

I notice a difference between pinnacle and nattys. One seems oilier if that is a word and the other pops more, the other is deeper too.

Same thing with EX and DP sealant, bot are nice and pop. Torn which is better though
