Taking care of your hands...

With all the different products I use, my hands are absolutely thrashed! And there's no joke about that! My G/F won't let me touch her half the time, claiming that my hands feel like sandpaper. Heck, I can't even touch a car without leaving light scratches in the surface. I have to be super careful when I'm finishing up a vehicle, not to let me bare hands touch the surface. And the sad part is that I have a bottle of lotion in the van(keep it in the cup holder), and I use it at least once a day.

How do you guys take care of your hands? Need to keep them smooth and fresh :D

I bought gloves a long time ago, big package of them. Had really good intentions of using them, but I think I may of worn them twice :(

Time to start using them :D

I have pretty dry hands in general and two things that help me are:

1) Aquaphor lotion

http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=40445&catid=10400

You can find it at Wal-Mart, Walgreens etc. It is VERY thick and a tub will last a while. I HATE putting it on (I hate putting on lotion in general) but must admit it works. It's like super lotion hehe.

2) My wife has one of those paraffin wax things you dip your hands in:

http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=9204210

So you dip your hands in like 5 or 6 times and then let it sit on your hands for awhile. She says until it cools off... I can only wait 5-10 minutes before I get bored of having my hands frozen in one position doing nothing, and take it off.

My hands get dry to the point she doesn't like me touching her either and when that happens she makes me do the two together. First I put on the Aquaphor, then dip the hands. I don't much like doing it, but must admit it works pretty well.

She wants me to do it daily, but I can't seem to get around to it... however I DO think if I were to keep it up (say nightly before bed) my hands would be much improved, as I can see a difference when I actually DO get around to doing it once in awhile :D

From Harbor Freight: Nitrile with latex gloves for most work (short - wrist length, typically single use); $10 for 100 gloves.

> Industrial grade 2-ply nitrile gloves resist most chemical solvents and oils.
* Conforms to user's hand the longer they are worn
* Rolled cuff
* Latex inner ply

For jobs that require getting really wet I use nitrile gloves that go almost to my elbow.

I use gloves as much as I can.

What I found that reduced sweating with my hands was to buy xlarge, loose enough to make a big difference and still snug enough to be able to work with.

micro fiber gloves

I see that Proper Auto Care has micro fiber gloves. Wonder if anyone has tried them that can give us any feedback ?

PS: I get a lot of comments on those koozies.

Prevention followed by maintenance is a pretty good plan of attack.

I use hd rubber gloves (from HD) when washing tires/wheels/wells. Not only saves the hands from the stronger soap dilutions, but from nicks/cuts from sticking your hands into those tighter spots.

When using wheel dressings I throw on a pair of disposable nitrile gloves. I pick them up by the box of 100 from places like Walgreens and Sam's Club. I try to use them when cleaning door jambs as well, but I don't always follow through.

For maintenance, I use whatever hand lotions/creams the Wife has in the house. Cetaphil is a good one, and when I remember to tell her I need another tube, Gold Bond. There are others which are probably good as well, I just can't recall them right now.

Edit to add: the Harbor Freight nitrile gloves work fine also.

I've got the MF gloves. They are great for getting my Prima Wheel Armour off of all the nooks and crannies in multi spoke wheels!

I like them!

Thanks for all the replies guys! I bought the gloves some time ago, just keep forgetting to put them on :D I've been working without them for so many years, it's hard to start a new habit like that. Guess I should write myself a note and put it on my bag with all my compounds :D

I know the feeling and the look, i just purchased the Nitrile cloves and im using them, its kewl, once you get the correct size.
Also, i use products which is good and it does what i want, its DP brand from the Geeks, but dont let that touch your skin, it almost feels like it sux the moisture off your skin:eek:.

I put on a coat of skin lotion wait till it soaks into my pores and slip the Nitrile gloves on and goto work.:D:D
