Tailored Autotmotive Detailing: 2006 BMW 330xi

I got a call from a client that was going to be taking this car to Vermont. It's an 06 with a 6MT transmission. Pretty rare car and really fun to drive. He wanted the car to be well-presented and as new as possible. It is a daily driver, but it needed a cleanup. I was given some freedom with the car and this is what I ended up with.

I started with the engine. It wasn't very bad but it needed a touchup, plus it had a bunch of snow in the cowl area...A BUNCH! Here's what I did with it:

Engine

-Deionized H20 Pre Rinse

-Sprayed with Surfy City Road Trip Grime Remover

-Agitated underside of the hood and engine with various brushes.

-Deionized H20 Rinse

-Let dry during rest of detail

-Dress with CD-2

The exterior didn't look bad outside, covered in water. The owner even siad I wouldn't have to do too much to the outsite. But once it was inside, my lights, the texture below my Nitrile gloves, and my intuition knew better. Let's just say that when I showed him the clay bar...he gagged.:lol

Exterior Wash

-Deionized H20 Pre Rinse

-Foam Cannon with Karcher 3.49 and DP Xtreme Foam

-Dodo Wooki Mitt and two Gritguard buckets

-Glossit WHeel Gel x2 (plus Sissvax Brush, Boar's Hair Face Brush, and Daytona WHeel Brush)

-Deionized H20 Rinse

Interior Protect and Present-Opt Leather Protectant

-Klasse AIO on Wood and Aluminum

Thanks Martin. I wish I lived closer to Alaska so i could come a see ur niew diggs in person....I bet your pumped!

So how does that Karcher 3.49 do? Its a consumer electric PW right? And is it worth getting vs an expensive gas powered PW? thanks and good job.

Eric- The Karcher did well. You can see it in one of the reflection shots. It's not the big one you see in the back of one of my pictures. It has something like 1800 or 1850 PSI with an accessory wand that can produce 2000.

It has a good flow rate and works really well. I've been using this one since October about 3-4 times per week. Still solid. I run hot water through it as well with no issues.

I bought it for 129 off of eBay. At least for me, what I like about it is the price. Its more than enough for my work and when the tough job comes up...it's there. The day it burns out, I can get another one and there' no exhaust or fossil fuels to deal with. When I go mobile and need a generator, theirs only one engine running (the generator) and I feel better about that.

Overall...I really like it.

Well done Dave.I second that, the paint does look wet.Everybody knows that silver is such an unrewarding color i.t.o reflection therefore I believe its essential for lighter paints to have extreme gloss and some deepness to it,you sure got it down on this one!BMW paint are very rewarding when done right.

I have the Craftsman electric PW and it quit working after the first job I done, now it wont turn back on. I was about to just go buy a gas powered one but I've heard some good things about Karchers. thanks for the feedback.

Thanks for the link! Much appreciated. I was buying mine from NAPA but I'm always up for trying different products.

Another upper-eschelon detail! Is that like a boar's hair shaving brush you're using? i thought about those for emblems during the wash, but just have a boar's paintbrush from G's garage. Works pretty well.

Thanks! I do have a set of makeup brushes that I use that I bought at Sephora a while back and some BH brushes ( that look like long-handled versions of a shaving brush) I use for interior, emblems, lug nuts, and engines....what I mean was that I used a BH wheel face brush. :LOLOL
