Tailored Automotive Detailing: 2000 Honda Accord Coupe

This 2000 Accord Coupe came to me with 92,700 miles via my financial advisor. He wanted to have his fiancee's vehicle detailed so he could convince her not to buy a new car. So I scheduled him for a 3-Piece Package which allots for up to 5.5 hours and gives customers the best WOW per dollar factor. 13 hours later....I worked on everyting except the engine compartment.

The worst part of this vehicle was the interior. It took me 7.5 hours. The hair fibers from a pet were woven into the fibers and the console was a mess. I ended up vacuuming the interior 4 separate times (including the 1st) to make sure nothing was left behind. Originally, I even tried blowing it out with air, but nothing budged. Crazy.

The exterior was not too hard, but required meticulous attention. Lots of fallout and little nodules which I've seen many times before. My guess is from trees. I didn't go for true correction, but it turns out many of the defects came out in one pass. My goal, was to bring back some gloss to the paint, get everything sqeaky clean (no gunk), and not run-up the cost with my perfection seeking tendencies.

So here's the process:

Total Time: 13 hours

Exterior: ONR Wash, ONR +Optimum Clay, Meg's Body Solvent on rocker panels, Meg's D151 Via Orange Pad + Flex, and Four Star Gloss Enhancer Wipe Down.

Interior: Vacuum...a lot, Cleanse with TOL APC (8:1) and several MF's/ Brushes, Lexol Vinyl Protectant, Odor Neutralizer, PB Natural Look on pedals, Upholstery Fluffed with special fiber comb. A few stains were removed with the APC.

Tires/Wheels/Undercarriage: Sprayed with Gloss-It Wheel Cleaner (4:1), ONR Spray after GIWC dwelled for 5 minutes, Agitate with Swissvax Wheel Brush and other stiffer bristle burshes, wiped down. Tires dressed with Meg's Hotshine, and undercarriage dressed with Griot's Undercarriage Spray.

Specialty Areas Fuel Cap Area cleansed thoroughly with ONR via various burshes and wiped down, all door and deck lid shuts throughly cleansed and wiped down.

Headlights: 3m P500, P800, Trizact 1000,3000 and Orange Pad + D151

Tailights:Meg's D151 via Orange Pad and Flex (2 passes)

Overall, I am pleased with the results. The paint is now actually silver although swirls are visible under defect detection lighting. The interior is completely different. It presents well, smells good, is uber-slick, and I bet...she doesn't trade it in. Shame is she has to pick it up with all the salt on the roads.

* I apologize for the pictures. Photobucket is all funky right now and I am having problems generating the codes correctly. Please bare with me, the ize of the photos (they are clickable), and the amount (i just clicked a button and got them all).*

Onto the Show:

what was your process for the headlights. They came out really well.

Thank you.

As for tools I used a rotary polisher (small version) and a 3 inch backing plate.

Then I used a 3M P500 Sanding disc (no water) and sanded the lens until it was white (no shiney spots).

I then switched to a 3M P800 disc and repeated the step above.

I then sprayed the lenses and the 3M Trizact 1000 disc and thoroughly went over the lens making sure to knock down the scratches left by the 1st two discs.

I then repeated the process with the 3M 3000 Trizact.

Finally, I attached a 3 inch, orange pad and applied the D151 until it was gone.

Repeat with other lens.

Total time was about 30 minutes.:2thumbs:

Nice. Never tried using those discs. Usually just use some sand paper and polish. I have however heard of those discs. Good to see them working out for ya.

I can't believe someone could actually sit in that car, staring at the crap, and actually drive. I would be freaked to even touch anything lol. Great job! Love that body style :)

Yeah it a cool body. I think it was the last body style before the coupe turned into a swooping bubble for a while (7th gen). Now they are cool again, but that 6th gen version is a classic.

I guess dirt is like weight gain...it creeps on ya and you tend to ignore it. But man does it feel good to shed it!!

That's a pretty exacting group of products listed. Those headlamps/taillamps really did come out well. Nice turnaround - guess he's not buying a new car now!

Great work David…. that interior was an absolute mess!

On a side note, I checked out your website last week and it’s definitely one of my favorites.

Thanks! I think I might have convinced her. I hope she doesn't decide to trade it in after all that work..:)

It was a mess. I remember when I check the car in I thought...not too bad. I opened the door and was completely shocked. But it cam out well. Thnaks for the props on the website. I'm in the works of tweaking the "About" and "Menu" sections now. I'm also adding a dedicated GSP page. :2thumbs:
