synthetic vs. carnauba

i have about 40 bucks to spend on some new wax, but i don't know if i should get something synthetic like nxt techwax or nanowax or a carnauba...what are the dis/advantages of each and if i should go synthetic liquid or paste? i want to deepen the gloss and give it better reflectiveness...its a summit white s10....i have to stick to otc stuff do to lack of credit card/bank account

If you elect to wax often, select a carnauba.

If you wish to "wax" every six months or longer, select a sealant.

Welcome aboard, Zack!

i wax weekly, but the old carnauba i was using didn't last the week(the weather here always sux) although after it clayed it wednesday i layed down 2 coats of synthetic and a coat of carnauba...it looked alot better but still not the kinda gloss or depth i'm aiming for

and thanx, i love detailing this thing, just can't wait to get all the scratches and swirls out

Welcome, I found a key factor is the type of look you want.

You said you liked a deep gloss and reflectiveness. Any other properties and traits you were looking for?

i like it when it make the white look, well whiter, more pure, this truck has the whitest paint code manufactured so far and i like it to accent that...i can deal with waxing once or twice every two weeks...it doens't have to cover scratches and swirls that well since its gonna be polished soon

You might wait for it to get polished first because the depth you're lacking is mostly due to the swirl marks and other defects... have the car clayed, polished properly and then go about picking a sealant... I like Klasse SG on lighter cars for the look, because it's glossy and somewhat deep, plus very long protection... many can't even notice the difference, especially on white... I'd suggest you do 2-3 coats of KSG (after it's polished) then top with carnauba every 6-8 weeks. Should last a while.

ok thanks...i'm gonna clay it then polish it myself(i've done this once or twice to other cars) use a swirl remover and sealant/glaze then wax it..i was just curious what kind of wax i should use once i do all that

While I agree with the Klasse strategy, OP says OTC only. So, I guess I'd recommend the NXT routine as I am not terribly familiar with the other offerings found at Walmart, AAP, AZ, etc.

i should get i checking account in two months or so so then i'll be using the good stuff....just ordered some autoglym super resin polish...fellow s10 owner/pro detailer said i'd love it since i like hand buffing and whatnot

Go to Duragloss website . see about the store if any are offered that may carry some 105. Not many places do , but it is possible there might be something in your area.

If not then try the NXT 2.0

Zack , I have another thought , if you have a near by boating store , you can Duragloss 501 there . It say's for boats and such , but works awesome on cars . lot's use it that was. Should be in a white bottle with a blue label.

Okay, then as others have mentioned, Duragloss if its available and then Meguiars NXT.

If too expensive(In Canada its around $30), maybe try Mother's Synwax if you're sticking to OTC.

I have not tried it myself but will be trying it when it goes on sale since I found some pretty good comments.

theres a ton of boating supply stores here...would i apply that as a sealant or what?

and i've never tried mothers products other than the claybar kit, but i think the local oreily's has some...i might just pick up the synwax and the nxt 2.0....liquid or paste tho? cuz i'm not really partial to either one just want the best shine

Nice to see somebody using SRP, *VERY* good stuff (but keep it off black trim!). It won't do all that much prepping (it's almost functionally nonabrasive so you'll still need some abrasive polish) but it's a great penultimate product that can be topped with either a sealant or a wax.

Over SRP, I simply *LOVE* FK1000P. If I had a white vehicle that's almost certainly the combo I'd use on it (and I mean 99.999% certain). While regulars here know I really like the Klasse twins on certain vehicles, I honestly thing the SRP/FK1000P combo (or Klasse AIO topped with the FK1000P) is a whole lot better in many ways. But yeah, you gotta order it from FinishKare.

Plenty of towns have someplace you can get Collinite brand wax, and don't forget the local autobody/paint supply store when thinking "OTC".

And yeah, NXT is pretty good stuff (in my limited experience with it). Oughta be nice over SRP, but it won't last all that long (the SRP by itself might last almost as long as the NXT).

You could just use the SRP by itself. It's so user-friendly that redoing it as needed might not be all that bad.

Collinite's exceptional #885 sealant is often found at marine supply stores. I'd consider that a home run for you, Zack!

Enjoy.

Go buy you some Duragloss #601, #105 and #951. You can generally find Duragloss products at CarQuest. If they don't have it on the shelf, ask them to order it. You will pay about $25 for the three and you will get a very nice, long lasting shine. #601 is your cleaner and bonding agent, #105 is the long lastinng sealant and #951 is your spray wax that provides a deep shine like a carnuba. You get the best of all the worlds.
