SWR / Compounds????

I read all the time about compounding a cars paint, then they talk about removing the swirls with a designated SWR chemical.

Compounding was something I remember doing on single stage back in those ole days, Dupont Old #7 was my go to, really my fathers go to!

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't a compound and SWR the same thing?
