hey guys, im sure this has been talked about in the past threads somewhere but I cannot find it.

I am in the midst of switching from using a PC to the hitachi rotary. I have 6.5 pads from the pc. AM wondering if these pads along with the backing plate from the pc will fit on the new HITACHI ROTARY??? if not , what do i need to buy in order for me to use my lake country velcro pads from my PC?? thanks guys for all your help

The backing plate from your PC will not fit on the rotary. You'll want to get a rotary BP close to the same diameter as what you're using on the PC. The rotary BP's all use a 5/8" thread and looks like this:

4 inch Urethane Backing Plate by Lake Country

There are a lot of places that sell 5" and 6" BP's for the rotary so just order the size that you need. I thought that Danase sold them but I only see the 4" and 7" listed on his site. I think I bought my 5" rotary BP from Autogeek.

Your LC pads will work fine on the new rotary as long as you have the correct size BP.

Should I go with the 4 3/4 backing or the 4in by lake country?

of those two I would use the 4 3/4"

just so you have about 1/2" on both side is a good rule-of-thumb

so anything up to a 5.5" with6.5" pads

I'd go with the size that is the closest match to the one you are using on the PC that matches up to your pads, which would most likely be the 4 3/4" if your current BP is a 5" or a 6" if that is the size of your current BP.

Like BigJimZ28 posted, I would personally go with the 4 3/4" because I use a 5" BP on my PC. They used to sell a 5" BP for the rotary, and I'm sure some places still do, but 4 3/4" should be close enough if the 6" would be too big for your pads. You don't want to BP to extend past the Velcro backing on the back of your pads or it will tend to cut into the foam.

I use a 6" LC backing plate with the 6.5" LC pads with my Hitachi. This was recommended by Eric at Lake Country.
