Swirls?

First off is it possible to remove swirling by hand without a pc. Second after reading this site i have begun to look at every car around me to see the condition of the paint and i have noticed that about 90% of them are covered in swirls. My question is what actually causes the swirls. all of them are in a circle pattern so i wouldn't think that a dirty towel when cleaning would cause this. some of the cars i have seen the entire car all sides are covered with swirls seem odd to me. any ideas.

That's exactly what causes them. Most people sponge/towel/rub with circular hand motions (and use poor quality tools/chemicals).

The size of hand made circles tends to vary with where they are on the car. If the swirls are all identical and about 7" across then they were probably done with a rotary buffer but I see an awful lot more hand made swirls.

Generally, yeah, given enough time and effort. But some very hard paints (e.g., Audis, in my experience) aren't gonna respond well to by-hand measures.

And IMO, the vast majority of "swirl"-type marring comes from poor wash/dry techniques.

Layering wax can also cause swirling. I do all of my waxing by hand in circular motion and don't get any swirling; even in the sun and on hot surfaces.
