Swirls, rotary, SSR2.5...not working?

I was detailing my gf's step-dad's black dodge ram today and I used my edge 2000 pads and my metabo rotary. I was using a green pad w/ ssr2.5 at first cuz there were a lot of scratches in the paint as well as some major swirlage. I toned down the scratches and some of the swirls, but it wasn't removing it all. It feels like the ssr2.5 is breaking down wayy too fast. I have menzerna IP would that be better? Was I using too aggresive a pad? I was using a speed of about 1200-1500rpm, didn't have much problem with holograms, got them in 2 spots but ssr1 and a white pad on the PC got rid of them quickly.

So what products do you guys like on the rotary for swirls and other defect removal? I love the SSR's on the PC but so far on the rotary I'm not having much success.

Love the feel of the metabo, light and very easy to use.

Thanks

I woudl definatly try IP instead of the ssrs. ssrs just dont work as good on the rotary IMHO. you might also look into optimum polish. Its abrasivness depends on your pad choice, no dusting, and a long working time. I woudl definatly try the IP though and then follow up with FPII or SSR1, just something lighter to clean up after the IP. Your speed sounds about good. I usually run between 1250 and 1500 rpm. I just detailed my car today, it had moderate swirling on it. I was able to get them out using Hi-Temp medium cut and a Lake County cutting pad on my PC. I have nothing but good remarks on the Hi Temp stuff, it got the job done w/o having to make a second pass and it was far more easy to work with than what I used before, Meguiars Fine cut. Removal was a breeze and it left behind a beautiful shine and a scratch free finish :2thumbs:

Thanks, I will be ordering some of that optimum polish, all I hear are good things. I'm dissapointed in my ssr's tho, while they work great on the PC I think the heat created by the rotary just breaks them down wayy too fast:( I didn't have time yesterday to go over the panels with the rotary then the PC twice, beside's the fact it was blazing hot and I must have drank like 16 glasses of water in 6 hours of detailing.

The truck looks 100% better than it did, but there are still swirls that bother me(I'm super dooper anal about swirls), but my gf's step-dad didn't notice and was totally suprised his truck came out like it did. It is a 99 afterall and hasn't been detailed ever...or cared for all that much.

I had the EXACT same problem the other day. It was the first time using SSR2.5 and it just broke down way too fast even on low RPM with my rotary. I was using way too much product and not getting the results I wanted. DACP is a much better product to use with a rotary IMO.

Crap, why did no one tell me that when I was asking about product/pad recommendations? I thought SSR2.5 was one of the best out there? Now after I buy it everyone's like 'that doesn't work well with a rotary'??????????

I've never used a rotary, but in my experience the SSR's break down really, really fast on my PC. I'd imgaine a rotary would flash them super fast. Maybe try some Optimum, has just about an infinite working time.
