Swirls on chrome

Hello everyone,

I have been lurking on the board for a couple of months and just wanted to say hi. I am really impressed by the amount of knowledge and help the members bring to Autopia and the nice tone most of the debate has.

Anyways, I digress. My car (Lexus IS300) has a chrome gear shift knob that is starting to look swirled (micro-scratches). I have tried Mother's Chrome Polish which makes it shiny but doesn't help on the scratches. I have thought of trying Harley-Davidson Chrome Polish. Any other suggestions would be much appreciated.

You can try Wenol Blue. Click Here

You can also read the following article about polishing metal found on this site. Click here

Hope this helps. I'm sure you'll get some other great tips here.

Chrome is a real challenge. Chrome is a very hard surface unlike paint. I have some scratches ( more than micro) in a chrome bumper that would require the steel wool method and then polishing. I have not found a polish that can truly remove maring in chrome that the steel wool will surely cause therefore I have put off polishing the bumper.

This may not be of much help but when possible use a test area.

Please follow up on your thread with your results.

good luck

I had the same problem with some of my chorme finish. I have tried the 3M Abbrasive's most abbrasive product but the scratches were never removed... I gave up!!!
