Swirls / Marring

I've been reading and see a lot of posts about marring having been induced by some product.

What is marring? Hows it different from swirls?

well, for some reason I can't get the link to work. There's a pretty good thread on this already. Searched - terms were swirls, marring. It's about the 4th result down.
