Swirls keep popping up

Well, I posted this a few days ago and it seems it was lost when the server died.

I keep getting some isolated, hairline scratches (swirls) in the finish in combination with some ultra, ultra fine hairline swirls.

I got around to re-polishing a few panels today. before getting to that, though first I did the windows which were heavily etched by water spots (car sat on lot for 7months before I bought it) I was not sure my Zaino glass polish would be up to the task, but I was pleasantly surprised (although It appears it could easily be substituted for toothpaste and do the same job)

anyway, before I get too offtopic. I took a full 4 hours to do 3 panels! I had to try several combinations before getting the isolated swirls out, it appears they must have been deep scratches I did not get out w/my first polish job. I had to use DACP w/ yellow cutting pad and PC on 6! with like 4 slow passes w/ moderate pressure followed by 3M machine glaze and white pad on speed 5.5 w/ 3 passes (tried the meg's swirl free polish, but did not work very well?)

How much clear do ya think this process is taking off? I'm kinda hesitant to do the rest of the finish if I have to go this agressive to get these swirls off?

only 4 passes with DACP? you might want to let the product break down some more...or are you saying 4 times with DACP, letting it break down each time?

LouisanaJeeper- Unless the marring you're taking out is *very* deep, as in "maybe you oughta leave it alone"-deep, you're probably not removing as much clear as you think. The PC isn't all that powerful.

And heh heh, four hours to do three panels isn't bad. It can take a LONG time to remove marring by PC. And it seems you might need to spend even *longer*.

FWIW, I do almost *all* my PC polishing work at 6, and I find it *so* mild that I'll use the Cyclo instead whenever possible (or the rotary).

ah, yeah its not "rotory deep" haha. I cannot even feel them at all with a finger nail or see the indentation w/ bright light. I think the guy at the dealership used a terry towel to dry and picked up some dirt which he then ground into the finish.

OK, that's good news. Just keep working at it until it's gone. You're not gonna kill the clear by removing ("regular") toweling marks.

What everyone else said about you being safe with the clear coat. And like Accumulator does, most of my polishing is done on speed 6. I've found it more effective with DACP and a cutting pad at that speed.

The time frame you've spent sounds about right to me, maybe just a little long. But it all depends on what you're dealing with, and the hardness of the paint/clear. My car's first polishing took easily that long to get the previous owner's "neglect" worked out. But once done, it's a snap to polish any light defects I get now (since it's cared for the "Autopian Way").

I say keep at it, and admire the beauty and hard work when it is complete. In the end it is time well spent (not to mention the $$'s in equipment and products used to achieve spectacular results).

I've been through the same thing on my hood.Swirls just wouldn't go away.First tried 1ZPP-MP by hand, then 1ZPP-AIO by PC,still not quite happy. Then spent some time(a lot of time) with #9 PC (polishing pad) and topped with NXT x2 and finished with #16 all by hand.I guess it's as good as it's going to get.
