Swirled 1996 Porsche 911 Turbo

Gentleman,



My fairly high mile 96 turbo was looking worse for wear with some significant swirling, rids, and micro marring.



Process:

Certainly not bad, but you get an idea of the swirling.

scratch would not come out without wetsanding.

That is some left over wax/qd and not really a hologram.

As you can see its nowhere near perfect, but the swirling is SO much better.



Thoughts?
 
It needs to be machine polished to remove the swirls, not hide them. I recommend you pick up a polisher like a FLEX and some Menzerna products (SIP and Super Finish) an orange Lake Country CCS pad and a white CCS pad to CORRECT the swirls in the car. The 993 Turbo is my favorite 911 ever. I hope this helps.

It doesn't actually, because I DID machine polish it.



I used a UDM and the aforementioned Sonus products.



NO fillers have been applied at all.
 
Great job! I'm a big fan of #26 on black as well ;) I've heard good things about #21 first then 12 hrs later applying #26. Haven't finished paint correcting my black car yet, but I think I'm going to give it a shot.





Regardless, good work especially on ~15 yr old paint with a UDM! It's all about being better, not necessarily the best and you've more than done that. ;)

what's the point in making a comment like this? it's his car and he understands that the effort/time to get it to 100% will be underminded immediately since it's a driver and not a GQ. why can't he be satisfied with "good enough" if that's his desired level of perfection? :ignore

Very nice car and great job of taking care of it. I think the level of detailing you chose was very wise for a 14 year old daily driver.

This is Click and Brag, not Pro Details Before and After. Over here we have careers outside detailing and we detail for the pure joy of it. I don't detail cars like you do, but I bet you suck spaying dogs. PM me if you want a deeper discussion.

I realize the limits of my equipment and my talent. However, the difference between this level of detail and the $400 pro jobs doesn't create enough value in my cost benefit analysis.



This car sits in an apartment garage or open parking lot, I'm just not going to get crazy with it
 
LOL some interesting replies in this thread so far. I think you did a great job. On a car that gets driven on a regular basis, ESPECIALLY a black one with 15 year old paint, there is absolutely nothing wrong with aiming for "good enough" as opposed to 100% perfection. It looks a million times better. Aside from light QD hologramming you mentioned, I don't even see any swirls in the paint, so I don't know what the fuss is about - you've done a great job.



I have to say that this is probably my favorite Porsche body style. I never expected you to say it has 70k miles on it...what a beauty! :)

as you stated, sometimes good enough is...well...good enough.
 
that is a damn nice looking car, i was looking at widebody 996 cars, but love the 993's so much better. i will definitely own one in the future.
 
Well said guys NICE DEBATE, nice Porsche. Dont bring it to the gas and serve car wash. Have it detailed twice per year. I think it is very healthy to have "its a good enough approach" especially if that is how the car was treated its whole life. No sense getting crazy about it.
 
Like this guy with this 8 year old HumV . I did the best I could....this thing never saw water, because the owner stated it was to BIG to wash. This guy was very pleased! It did cost him for his neglect. It was a very Happy ending! Second best isnt my GIG either, but people beat the crap out of their cars.
 
I think its a very sensible and responsible detail. Future owners may well want to do a full detail and then park it up, but so long as its a daily, the paint depth needs to be responsibly managed.



By the way, looks ace. M26 was a nice choice of wax for this colour. Using M07 as a base would have taken it up another notch, but still looks very wet.
 
I've always liked the results I have gotten with Meguiar's #26 on black paint, and have been using it for years on my wife's Onyx Black Suburban and now her Indigo Blue Suburban.



And I get where you are coming from with the "good enough" reference -- sure, it is a serious high-buck car, but you'll drive yourself out of your mind trying to make it/keep it 100% perfect. Never gonna happen for a daily driver, and at the speeds that car can hit, nobody's going to notice a flaw or two!



All in all, good stuff!
