Swirl Remover question...

This weekend was the first time that I atempted to use SSR2 to remove swirls from my Silver Lincoln LS. I placed the product on a Blue Sonus pad in an "X" design and placed the pad on the trunk. I began with the PC @ 3.5, in order to spread the product (in "up & down" and "back & forth" motions). After the section (about 3' x 2') of the trunk was uniformily covered, I increased the PC speed to 5 and worked until the product started to dust. I wiped the trunk with a MF towel to inspect the results. The paint looked better, but there were still swirls present.

Basically, I have 2 questions:

1. How long should I expect to work the product into the paint in order to see results? I know that I shouldn't expect to see professional results in my first attempt.

2. How many times do I need to apply product to the pad when trying to remove swirls? Is there such a thing as using too much product?

I have used SSR 2 many times to remove swirls, however I am not familiar with the Sonus pads.
my best results with this product has come by using a Meguiars Foam cutting pad. I start out on speed 3 or so and then spped 5 1/2 or 6.
I work the product til it dusts slightly and wipe off.
If the swirls are not removed then I do the same thing all over again.
If the swirls are still there, I step up to SSR 2.5.
It does not require much of the SSR product to get results.
It sounds like you are on the right path ... Good Luck!

like Kim said, you either have to bump up to a more abrasive pad and then back to the polishing pad, or you need to use a more abrasive product like SSR2.5

I think your problem might be using the blue Sonas pad. This pad is for final polishing or pre-wax cleaning. It doesn't have enough bite for swirl removal.

I have personally used the Sonas green pad for minor swirl removal, and it take out most of them. If the swirls require more cut to remove, you can then step up to the Sonas orange.

good luck!

The Sonus orange pad works great with SSR 2.5. I removed major swirls from a friends car with that combo. As always, you may need to go back over the area with a less aggresive product and pad to remove any micromarring that occured during the swirl removal.

I just went threw the same thing with my Mustang using the Sonus Pads and have to agree with the previous post. I used the green pad with the PC set to 5 and worked the SSR 2.5 slow and easy until it was dry.
Then I followed it up with another green pad using SSR 1, again slow and easy, until dry. Do about a 2 x 2 section at a time and you will get great results.

Here's a pic of the final results I only wish I had taken some before shots, but just know this, this car was filled with swirls and I removed about 80 to 90% of them with this procedure.
