Swirl remover prior to AIO?

I know this has been discussed a few times before, but I would like to get some new opinions, and maybe some verification of what I already feel I should try.

Basically, I am curious as to what swirl remover some of you recommend for use prior to AIO, which I will be topping with NXT.

It will be applied with a PC 7424. I have tried 1ZPP but find it very hard to work with. I would like something that is compatible with Poorboys' products because I will probably be trying them out in the near future, however I am not sure if their swirl removers are compatible with AIO.

What are YOUR recommendations? Thanks.

(Also something I can use under Zaino's products) :nixweiss

AIO is a paint cleaner and a base for SG. If you are going to do swirl removal then you will want to do that before the AIO part. If paint cleaning is your goal, then use the AIO first and then determine what kind of swirl remover you need. Your cars probably don't have 10 years of oxidation that needs to be cleaned off prior to polishing, so using a polish first and then AIO before using Zaino or NXT is probably the best idea. AIO goes great under Zaino. I know several members here who have used them in that order.

I understand that AIO is a prep/cleaner for SG, however, I have had mixed results with the SG, and will instead be topping it with NXT. The problem is the few swirls that reside beneath the AIO and NXT. I am looking for specific products to use with this combination to remove the swirls, since we all know AIO won't.

Why not just trust the NXT to handle the 'few swirls' that would be under the AIO? I'm just not clear on why you want to include AIO into the list of products to be on your car. Just bust out a swirl mark remover and then use the NXT. Or you can let the NXT 'eliminate' the swirls as it says it can do on the bottle. I have seen success in minimizing swirls with NXT when used by PC.

If it would be best to skip the AIO and go straight from a heavy duty polish to NXT I would be willing to do that, but the NXT isn't abrasive enough to remove the swirls. I have tried that already.

Try this:

3M Finessse it Fine cut

AIO

Topper of your choice (S100, #16 for dark or SG for light are my choices...)

You'll love it.

I have tried 1ZPP but find it very hard to work with.

Not doubting your experience at all, but I thought that 1ZPP was supposed to be one of the easiest polishes to work with.

Maybe look at 3M Perfect-It III Show Car Machine Glaze (PN 39011), or as blackntan suggested, 3M Perfect-It II Fine Cut Rubbing Compound (PN 39002).

(please correct me if I am wrong, but) I would say order of aggressiveness of items on this thread would be;

- 3M FCRC

- 1ZPP

- 3M MG

- Klasse AIO

Question; If you went up to 3M FCRC, wouldn't you need something between that and the AIO step?

I don't, and I'm working with a black car... The AIO cleans up the Fine cut very nicely...

I find the 1z PP to be extremely easier than 3m FC RC. :nixweiss I reserve the FC RC only for rotary practice on scrap now

Bill,

What don't you like about FC?? I've never tried the 1Z, so I don't have a comparison point..

Give me some details! I may have to switch...

How's the cutting power of the 1Z?

Just how bad are your swirls? You mention Poorboy's,there polishes supposedly don't contain anything that can interfere (bonding) with products like Zaino.I've used the 1Z PP and like any polish if you use to much can give less than satisfactory results.I've been using Poorboy's SSR1 lately as a last step polish and if the rest of there polishes are just as easy to work with than you can't go wrong IMO.

I purposely hazed the paint (I was experimenting) by using to much #80 and tried the SSR1 over it and it cleaned it up real nice.

I use both 3M and 1Z stuff, depending on the job, my mood, the phase of the moon, etc. :D

I've used both the FI-II and PI-II Fine Cuts, and I've found products that I like a lot better (not that there was ever a *problem* with those).

The FCRC is a bit more aggressive than the PP but they're still sorta comparable. The FI-II is more similar to it than the PI-II. The PI-II FCRC makes more (carcinongenic  )dust, too, that's why I prefer/switched to the PI-III RC (05933), don't remember about dust with the FI-II. With the PP, I'm more likely to get a ready-to-wax finish, though I've had it happen with the 3M RCs too. If you like 3M stuff, try a quick pass with the MG (05937) after the FCRC, I'd bet that you'll notice a difference ;)

The 1Z polishes leave wax behind, more of a "filler"-type effect than you get with the basically filler-free 3M products. No problem either way if you're using AIO.

Generally, the 1Z products are more user-friendly than the 3M ones, and note that I never had any trouble with the 3M, so I wasn't expecting a big difference.

But having said all that, the last product I use before AIO is either Menzerna FP or the PI-III MG.

The PI II FC RC never really removed what I considered light scratches for me. Forget using it by PC, all I got was a lot of dust and aggrevation. I would believe it if one were to say it's a rotary only product, as it works better for me this way so I use it to practice with the rotary. That said, I like DACP a lot better both by PC and rotary and although not really a comparable product( less aggressive), I also like the PI III MG a lot better in tems of final look and application.

As for the 1z PP, very friendly both PC and rotary wise. As for its ability to truly remove defects, I continue to have good results even after the alcohol wipe down.

Just differing expereinces. I know some Autopians are rather satisfied with the PI II FC RC. The other products just accomplish what I want easier and more effectively.

I like 39009 3M Swirl Mark Remover. I know that others have spoken highly of Meg's DACP. I have not tried this product.

My success has been mostly with 39009 and then AIO/SG.

And this is on a black acura which is tough to make look good.
