Surf City Garage...a couple of reviews

I recently purchased two Surf City Garage products...Speed Demon Wax Detailer and Beyond Black Tire Pro tire dressing. Both are excellent.

The BBTP Tire dressing is the best tire dressing I've ever used. It spreads easily/evenly and looks great...not too matte, not too glossy, and no blotchiness. Also, it easily flows into all the sidewall lettering and design work. IMO, it's a joy to use compared to most OTC tire dressings/gels, etc. Many are either so thin that they run or so thick that they are a pita to spread evenly. I don't know about durability yet, but I have to believe it's at least as good as other quality tire dressings. There's no sling, either.

The Speed Demon QD is also very good. I bought it because my other QDs are all polymer types, the Speed Demon is polymer/carnauba blend. It spreads easily, clears-out well and looks great...deep with nice reflections. Slickness is good, but it's not super slick. Works well on glass, too. Again, not sure about durability, but all QDs are short term, anyway.

Now that the local Pep Boys carries them, I look forward to trying more Surf City products.

Surf City has some great products. I like Spped Demon QD, but FK425 is slicker. Grime Destroyer works great on bad wheels.

I really like most SCG products ... the only one I'm not a fan of is their wheel cleaner. It's a pretty good cleaner, but it's not cost effective. I don't know if it's me, but I tend to use more "Beyond Steel" wheel cleaner than Eagle One's A-to-Z wheel cleaner when cleaning fairly clean wheels.

Like I said before every SCG product I used I liked there is not 1 product that I was disappointed with. I would love to see a paste wax coming soon

They recently showed up at my local Napa. I bought Dash Away, and love it. I will continue to use it. It's a great cleaner, leaves the surface completely natural, smells good, and protects. I like it better than 303 for the interior. I'll probably still use 303 on my tonneau cover.

I plan to try the glass cleaner (once my IG is gone), and Grime Destroyer.

For the casual hobbyist, I just can't justify mail order -- when great products (Duragloss, Surf City, Collinite, etc.) are readily available OTC. The only thing I will continue to mail order is ONR. I typically pick up another product or 2 to try when I order ONR.

been very happy with all of the SCG products I've used. Especially the Speed Demon QD. works great for quick touch ups.

Sorry to Thread Jack but I am having difficulty finding Duragloss, and Collinite OTC in Cali. Been to Napa, Pep Boys, Kragen, Auto Zone, Wally World.

Any suggestions? Trying a larger Napa this weekend for the Duragloss BTW.

TIA

They are not comparable products in the least. SCG is an "any wheel" wheel cleaner that I use for delicate wheels. Like uncoated aluminum, classic wire wheels, etc. If you've just got an average wheel you don't need a product like that. My Griots is the same way. It's not very strong at all, but VERY safe. And I go through a LOT of it. I use A2Z on wheels that don't need that kind of safety and it works a LOT faster and I use a lot less of it. And the can is a LOT more effective than the spray.

For Duragloss in Cali, look for Carquest. They carry a decent amount of Duragloss OTC. Still looking for Collinite OTC.

You are right. I was kinda disappointed by the fact that it felt more watery than A-to-Z. It cleaned the rims really good though ...
