Supposedly untouched Audi

New client who ordered this car and repeatedly told dealership not to touch it as it was coming in within a week of delivery. As you can see I don’t think that was the case!
Cutting step with Griot’s correction cream on a microfiber pad, refinement with Griot’s perfecting cream on a black finishing pad. Used Griot’s 15,6 and Ibrid. Finished with Modesta Primer on black finishing pad. Coated paint with BC08, wheels with polish angel, glass with Dr. Beasley. Thank you for looking!

[INSERT usual praise for Mike Lambert`s work here..]

Mike lambert- Now had he stuck to his guns and refused delivery that would`ve 1) ensured a truly untouched new car with oe clear thickness, and 2) impressed upon them that when he says something, he means it. Refusing delivery over such stuff was one of the best auto-related decisions I`ve ever made, decades later it`s still paying dividends at that dealership.

Anyhow, assuming (uh-oh) that Audi clear is still pretty hard....How readily did the Correction Creme/MF correct the deeper marring? Does using the Black Finishing Pads genuinely offer a better finish than using the Perfecting Creme on their Yellow Polishing Pad or is it just a personal preference? Eh, I probably keep asking you the same Qs but I want to figure out what`s-what as best I can before i get serious about switching to a more GG-centric approach.

The clear was relatively easy to correct with that combination and I didn’t have any hazing so just a small amount of refinement was needed. I do think on certain cars it gives a great finish as long as you don’t have significant marring from the cutting step. As far as surface contamination, Modesta has products for that, but we’ve found any good fallout remover works on tha coatings. Thanks for the kind words!

The car looks great!

Many Audi`s are shipped with a thin cloth-like bag over the entire car with some panels also covered with stick-on protective sheets. Could the "bag" and it`s removal along with removal of those protective sheets caused some of the damage? I wouldn`t put it past the dealership to give it a quick wash in spite the owners wishes, but you never know.

That’s always possible, but when we found wax in the cracks and crevices all over that blows the untouched theory out the window?

Perhaps if Audi ships vehicles on the HS Harms ships like BMW used to do, or maybe still does, the factory puts the wax on to keep it all protected from the salt air that would have to get down there in the cargo holds, no ?? Just a thought..

I remember a while back, an entire Harms vessel full to the top with new Bimmers sank somewhere... How sad... All that horsey power... :(

When I bought a BMW back in the late 90`s there was some protective coat on the paint and there was also a heavy layer of cosmoline all over the underside of the car to prevent corrosion while on the RORO car carriers. The dealers had to clean it all stuff off. Even with them washing the stuff off, my car still smelled really bad when I drove it for a few weeks as the cosmoline burned off all the hot engine areas the dealer couldn`t reach easily.

Either way, left over wax is highly suspect unless the factory applied it.

I have been to Corvette Assembly in BG twice to see my cars being built. On both occasions, some cars would get marked in final inspection for paint and other defects so the cars would get "worked" on to correct the paint issues before shipping....
